"In an age long past... Evil flooded over the land. Creatures awash in the dark tide ran wild, pushing mankind to the brink of annihilation. In its despair, mankind appealed to the heavens, and from a blinding light came hope. The Sacred Stones. These five glorious treasures held the power to dispel evil. The hero Grado and his warriors used the Sacred Stones to combat devil's darkness. They defeated the Demon King and sealed his soul away within the stones. With the darkness imprisoned, peace returned to Magvel. But this peace would not last..." In the year 803 of the 1st Calendar, the second War of Shadows began. The Empire of Grado invaded their longtime neighbor and ally, the Kingdom of Renais, beginning a chain of events that would once again bring the world to the brink of ruin. The Sacred Stones, one by one, were lost in the tide of darkness, leading to the resurrection of the Demon King. The Demon King was eventually slain by two twins from Renais, and his physical body destroyed. His soul was imprisoned in the last remaining Stone of Power, and the world entered an unprecedented era of peace and prosperity. Or, so the old tale goes... It is now the 1999th year of the 11th Calendar. Over twelve thousand years have passed since the defeat of the Demon King, and the ancient tale has long since faded into myth and legend. Magvel evolved, and the world changed drastically. The ancient and proud Kingdoms are no more. Evil Empires and beautiful dragons have been relegated to mere fairy tales. The people had no need for magic, and eventually stopped using it, until that too was lost to the ages. Now, the world runs on one thing: Technology. With the advent of Energy, a mysterious material harnessed through unknown means, the world took a giant leap into the future. The first automobiles were invented. Ships were perfected, and trade routes to other continents were established. Construction on the first Airships began. Almost two thousand years have passed, since Energy was first discovered. The continent of Magvel is now a bastion of endless wealth, and at its center is the grand state of Illaria, a republic founded by the inventor of Energy himself, and ruled by the Council of Twelve. Every ten years, the Council holds a Proving, and elects a new 'Empress' to represent the people. This position carries little real weight, but the tradition keeps the people appeased, and allows the Council to rule as they please. In times past, the Council was strong and just, and the Empress was a guiding light for her people. But all that changed when the Svera family came to power. Nevan Svera came from nowhere and took control of the Council seemingly overnight. He married the only daughter of Chairman Daar, the Council Leader of the time, and assassinated her father. He mercilessly slaughtered any and all in his way, and within days, he had the entire Council in his pocket. The Svera dynasty has ruled fair Illaria from the shadows ever since. Now, the eve of the New Millennium approaches. A new Empress has already been chosen, a kind and elegant young woman, and she is adored by the people far and wide. And for the first time in Illaria's history, the new year coincides with the historical 2000th anniversary, the Proving, and a total Lunar eclipse. The stage is set for an unparalleled celebration, and travellers from all corners of the globe flock to Illaria's silver gates. And one of those travellers is a woman with long purple hair, and odd, pointed ears...

"The wheel of fate is always turning, even when you least expect it"- Michael C. Doyle
The major powers:
The Republic of Illaria( ill- laria): the greatest power on Magvel. The state encompasses most of central Magvel, from the Southern Mountains to Lake Nara. While there are many small cities and villages scattered throughout the Republic, the capitol of Illaria, known as the Silver City, has the most population by far. Illaria is a beautiful city, surrounded by glistening white walls. The city sits on top of Lake Nara, the largest lake on the continent, on its own island. The island is connected by one bridge, which is known as the Long Walk.
The Manzel Theocracy: The oldest nation in Magvel, located in the northeastern corner of the continent. It is said to have been founded by a descendant of one of the very heroes who defeated the Demon King, in eons past. It is ruled by High Pontiff Eyna(I- Na), who is commonly known as 'the Blind Priestess', and General Phoenix, her rumored lover. While the Theocracy was founded on worshipping the Great Dragon, few still do. Now, the nation is only a theocracy in name. The capitol of Highborne is a splendid city, nestled high in the northern mountains, overlooking the Eternal Forest far below. The city is a natural fortress, with only one road leading up and down the mountain side. Due to this, Airships are common, as are Wyverns and Pegasi. The city is home to Skyhall, the ancient palace of the Pontiff, and is renowned as the last bastion of Wyverns and Pegasi in the world.
The Merchant Nation of Cail: A group of city states spanning the northern and northeastern coast of Magvel. Despite being ruled independently by Governors, the city states are all allies, and together, they hold a large monopoly over the Sea Trade. The greatest of these city states, Valtheim, is home to the largest port in Magvel, Port Whiterock. The others are Carcinoma, Hailan, Woodland, Dirk, and Veynar.
The Principality of Laylia: The smallest nation on Magvel, and the last monarchy in Magvel. It mostly occupies the southern territories, where Grado used to be, and is ruled by Prince Edward. Prince Edward is known to be a wise and just leader, if a little naïve. The capitol is also called Laylia, and it is a fairly small city, located on the Southeastern Plains. Laylia is known as the Land of Rivers, or the Green Land, for the lush meadows and many rivers running through the land. The capitol itself is surrounded by several river systems. The people are mostly farmers, hunters, and artists. Laylia has a very small military.
(It's basically where you fought Selena in Ephraim's Tale)
Important people:
Chairman Price Svera- the illustrious leader of Illaria's High Council. He is a flamboyant and enigmatic man, with a love of wildlife and flowers. Not much is known about him.
Empress Reyna Sky- a young woman of only 23 years of age, and the new Empress. Her past is mostly unknown, but she is rumored to have been born in Laylia. She is kind and gentle, even demure at times, but she doesn't hesitate to act forcefully when needed. She only wants the best for her people. She gained popularity as a singer, but after a chance meeting with Chairman Price, she became interested in politics and history.
Grand Marshall Glen- the strongest knight in Illaria, and the leader of Illaria's armed forces, despite his young age. He is also the Captain of the Empress's guard.
I'll post the rest later.

*Taps on the chin* I'm assuming it is, and we won't go too modern. That automobile nearly destroyed me, but I'm alright. What are the weapons? Liking your world building as well. Pretty neat. Can't wait for this to start, hopefully before Christmas.
You've got me worked up, and now I cannot stop brainstorming!

Councilman Ivar: The oldest member of Illaria's High Council, he served the previous Chairman for many years and now serves as Price's advisor. He is extremely intelligent, but also cunning and devious. His face was scarred horribly in a fire, and so he always wears a hood. Of the current Council, only Price has seen his face. Councilman Garth: A wizened old Commander turned politician, he has a strict, no nonsense attitude and an even stricter intolerance for justice. While some think he is too wrapped up in tradition, and others think he is a fool, he is still on the Council for a good reason.... High Pontiff Eyna: The current ruler of Manzel. Her people call her the Saint of the North, for her kind nature, ethereal beauty, and gift for prophecy. It is said she lost her eyesight when she visited the Eternal Forest as a girl, but in return, she was gifted with the power of foresight. Her visions have always proven true, and she has used this gift solely to help her people. She is a quiet, reserved woman with a vast store of knowledge and is very slow to anger. Despite her handicap, she is an excellent ruler. Her chief advisor is the enigmatic General Phoenix, and she's rarely seen without him by her side. General Phoenix: A man of unknown origins and an unparalleled warrior. No one knows his true name, or even what he looks like, as he always appears in public wearing his helmet. He is a giant of a man, and wields a massive Halberd in battle. Rumor suggests he and the Pontiff are much closer than they appear to be, but regardless, he is fiercely loyal only to her. Governor Crane: The governor of the largest city state in Cail, and the owner of the largest Shipping Corporation in the world, Crane Trading International. He is the direct descendant of the man who first invented Airships, and very proud of his heritage. He is a tall, wiry man, as befitting his name, with arguably the largest and most beautiful mustache in the world. He is elegant but arrogant, with a fierce love of theatre, and long crimson tailcoats. He dislikes getting his hands dirty, but is a surprisingly good shot with a Pistol. Governor Eleanor: The governor of Carcinoma, the second largest city state in Cail. She is a kind and beautiful woman, but prone to sudden mood swings. She is widowed with one son, but he left to become a mercenary several years ago. Prince Edward: The current ruler of Laylia. Laylia is the last fragment of an ancient Empire, and Edward is the sole living descendant of that bloodline. As tradition dictates, the new ruler of Laylia must journey to the Eternal Forest to seek the Great Dragon's blessing. However, the Great Dragon has not been seen or heard from for millennia, and so Laylia has gone without a King or Queen for eons, instead being ruled by a series of Princes and Princesses. He is one of the youngest Princes in quite some time, being only 29 years of age. He ascended to the throne immediately after coming of age. Michael C. Doyle: A historian and professor at the Royal University, in the Silver City. ???: A mysterious young woman who's travelling to see the world. She never removes her worn brown cloak, even indoors. Special Places: The Eternal Forest- Formerly known as Darkling Woods, this beautiful forest was revitalized by a mysterious power, and is now a sprawling network of giant, almost luminescent trees. At the very heart of the forest, is an ancient crumbling ruin that hides a terrible secret. Lake Nara: A gorgeous, crystal clear lake over five miles wide. Despite the clarity of the water, the lake is so deep, you can't even see the bottom with an Energy powered Magnifying Lens. The lake is said to have a tragic past. Jehanna's Folly: A massive canyon, said to extend all the way down into the bowels of the planet. It lies in a foreboding desert, known as the White Ocean. The White Ocean: A giant desert, covering a large portion of Southeastern Magvel. It is said a legendary Kingdom once existed here in ages past, but no ruins have ever been found, despite numerous archaeological expeditions. Mount Morva: The largest peak in the Northern Mountains. Curiously enough, it is shaped like a dragon's head. Caer Pelyn: An ancient village nestled high in the Northern Mountains, that has stood the test of time. Its residents silently watch the world below, waiting for the time when they are needed once again. Despite the advent of Airships, Caer Pelyn remains hidden to this very day, protected by harsh terrain, otherworldly winds, and the watchful eye of Mount Morva. There are many more special places, including hidden islands and different continents, undersea ruins and more. But that's spoilers, so you'll have to wait to learn about that. General Info: While there is fairly advanced technology, it's nothing crazy, and Enertech isn't everywhere. Places like the Silver City or Highborne have much better Enertech than, say, some random village. Or Laylia. Enertech can be used in place of electricity to power devices, and it can also be used to power weapons, like Energy Pistols, and Energy Shields. However, portable Energy Devices have to be recharged, so their use is finite. Also, while Magic users are rare, it does not mean they don't exist. Energy Shields can halve ranged damage, but a Rank B+ Tome will break through with one shot. A C Tome will take two shots to break through, a D Tome will take three, and an E Tome will take four. The supply and availability of Energy Equipment depends on the location. For example, in the Silver City, only military personnel have access to Energy Equipment. Illaria(Countryside/Outskirts): Low Supply, Low Availability The Silver City: High Supply, Low Availability Highborne: High Supply, High Availability Manzel(Lower levels and ground cities): Medium Supply, High Availability Valtheim: High Supply, Low Availability Carcinoma: High Supply, Medium Availability Hailan: Medium Supply, Medium Availability Woodland: Medium Supply, Medium Availability Dirk: Medium Supply, Medium Availability Veynar: Medium Supply, Medium Availability Laylia: Low Supply, High Availability I'll post more detailed city descriptions later, as well as other general info about the world. There is no main religion, but some people do still worship the Great Dragon. There is also a cult of fanatics who worship the Founder(guy who invented Energy) as a Deity. Eventually, I'll have a map for this. But the continent hasn't changed that much since FE8 days, so the SS map is still somewhat valid.

It's not modern, it's essentially Magictech. I'm not pulling an Awakening. A civilization doesn't prosper for millennia straight and simply not advance. It's against human nature. In UB, there were setbacks and cataclysms, but in this world, Magvel has largely been at peace. But it's not too advanced, as there are strict limits on what Ener-D can do. It's still FE.

Also, not everyone uses Energy Equipment, or Ener-D for short. Energy can also be used to forge stronger metals, and create hotter forges, allowing for much stronger normal weapons.

So Energy Pistols would be rare, I take it? Or are bows just going to be obsolete?

Awesome, when will this start? I can't wait! I've already got two characters planned. It's hard keeping track of the technology and and cities, but I can try. I think I'm going to start with them in the countryside, well, one of them. What's the university about? Hoping the second can be a magic user...

So Energy Pistols would be rare, I take it? Or are bows just going to be obsolete? Energy Pistols are fairly rare for most people, unless you're extremely wealthy or military. Bows are still the ranged weapon of choice for the common populace, and Energy Bows are a thing too.

I have lines to memorize for two plays, and I still have a lot of stuff to plan. The Royal University is the largest and most prestigious school on all of Magvel, and it teaches all subjects. They don't teach magic there however.

The only place to learn magic is in Caer Pelyn. Be aware, that the Royal University is extremely difficult to get into. It's not like a normal University. I will post more details about the University later.

Hm, I thought Myrrh was the Great Dragon, but Morva is. Thanks for the link, Doug. Seems like a interesting place. I'll have to remember the bridge though.
