"That sounds painful."

"I would imagine so."

"Umm, so, what do you do back at home?"

"I hunted before my journey began."

"Hunted for what?" Morlius asked. "And what would you need gold for anyways?"

"Animals. We need to eat, you know. Pelts come in handy too. As for the gold, like I said, I need to eat. I have to provide for myself during my journey. People just don't feed you for free, you know. Everything in life has some sort of cost, and I prefer to pay in gold, not in favors."

"Or you could, you know, hunt." Morlius remarked.

"There isn't much to hunt in the desert here unless you go really far away from civilization, which is the exact opposite of the point of the journey."

"Point of the journey?" Morlius asked. "Did you tell me yesterday or something?"

"The point is to experience new things, meet new people, stuff that can only be done effectively in civilization."

"Then why is your tribe isolated?"

"You're just fishing for holes in my tribe's logic right now, aren't you? I'm done explaining things to people who try to pick apart everything I say. If you want to talk about the past and about where people come from, then why don't you start talking about yourself? Where are you from? What about your family?"

"I'm a merchant from a desert city, much larger than this one, full of normal, non-baby killing people." Morlius answered. "My father was a merchant as well, and my mother took care of me and my siblings, one of which was pushed out of a window and died. I was well-liked as a Tiefling, as exotic species were fairly common, but there was this one Aasimar who was sort of an a**hole. I began my trade, which was the selling of maps, books, and other paper materials as part of the Merchant's Guild."

"We don't kill our children either," she said as she gave him a very angry glare, and began to reach for her weapon.

"Didn't you say that you tossed out the males?" Morlius said.

"I said nothing even remotely similar to that."

"You said that they'd have to get an outsider to take any males born into your tribe, and from the sound of it, yours is pretty remote." Morlius replied. "And, if they can't find someone to take the child, they are exiled. I doubt a small child would make it in the wilds."

"The child is not exiled alone. The mother leaves and takes the child with her. You know I really feel like cutting out your tongue right now, don't you?" she said as she displayed her weapon.

"Oh, that's not as bad." Morlius apologized. "It's still seems like a rather arbitrary rule, excluding an entire half of the population that is required for reproduction."

Reyna just shook her head while pointing to the weapon that was in plain sight. "You're purposely trying to make me mad. You really have a death wish, don't you?"
