Ah, yes, that's what he was forgetting. To lock the cupboard where he keeps his CD rack, and that now was right about when Morgan went to her late class. "B-b****! You're supposed to wait for me to say you can take it! Get back here," he yelled as he chased her out the window, his weak body hitting the ground hard despite being on the first story. "I know that's not why you came over! Neither of us have time for this!"

"Oh I finally caught your attention," Morgan taunted Jenka. "Maybe next time you will learn not to ignore me," Morgan told Jenka with her hands on her hip. "What's the name of the CD again?" Morgan said just handling the CD all awkwardly.
"If you want back you have to catch me," Morgan said taking off.

"I just said we don't have time for this!" Giving chase, Jenka was noticeably slower than her, and it didn't take long for him to want to stop. But he just got that CD a couple of weeks ago, and it was signed by the band. He couldn't stop. No matter what.

The sound of curious sniffing fills the void, reminiscent of the many dogs that once roamed the streets searching for invisible trails left behind. Becoming so uncomfortably close as to raise the hairs on the back of one's neck, a semblance of consciousness begins returning to the quietly dreaming host.
My back... It's so cold... Where are my sheets...? Mama...?
The boy's eyes begin to open, revealing the vast open wasteland before him.
Oh no... No, no... The sun is out! When did I fall asleep!?
The sound of sniffing has now receded further away, but this doesn't stop Alward, the boy, from leaping into action. Adrenaline suddenly courses through his veins as he calls his mysterious axe into hand, as if it were a mere extention of himself. He flips around and yelps in unison with the predator a few feet away from him.
"Aaauuu!"
The source of the monstrous howl, much to Alward's confusion and relief, was no howling lobo or stray cat, but a boy. By all appearances little older than Alward himself, this other boy leans with an arched back, his ropey arms firmly planted on the ground as he sizes up Alward with keen eyes that glimmer with some hidden, animalistic intelligence. The feral boy wears only the skins of monsters, with a mix of striped and spotted hide composing his loin cloth and a thick green coat of fur draped over his shoulder. His blonde hair is messy and unkempt, spiked at the front with days of heavy exertion and not much bathing and in the back it's tied with loosely fashioned string into a rat tail.
"W-who are you!?" Alward asks, flailing the golden axe threateningly at the feral boy. "What do you want from us?"
"Uwau-au!" The boy barks. "I'm Gau!"
"That doesn't answer my second question..." Alward growls.
The boy called Gau returns a questioning gaze. "Gau smell familiar person. Gau come check smell, but Gau not find person. Instead, Gau find maniac with big shiny!"
"Maniac with...? Wait, you mean me?" Alward asks indignantly. "You're the one coming to our camp and... and smelling me!"
"What wrong with smelling?" Gau asks innocently. "You funny. Funny like Mr. Thou! Auuu!"
"Mister...? Argh, never mind!" Alward growls, abandoning any hope of reasoning with Gau.
"What's going on...?"
The young girl steps towards the quarelling boys, tiredly rubbing her eyes with one hand as she carries a sleeping baby snugly in her free arm.
"Erica..." Alward mutters, visibly relieved. "You two are safe."
"Who's that, Alward?" Erica asks softly, as if she were just being introduced to the neighbour kid.
"I'm Gau!" Gau replies immediately and excitedly, perhaps prideful of his ability to correctly deliver his simple introduction.
"Hello, Gau." Erica smiles. "I don't recognise you. Where are you from?"
"Erica!" Alward chastises his companion through gritted teeth. He glares at Gau. "This kid just came out of nowhere. Don't be so friendly!"
Erica looks at Gau, and then turns back to Alward. "He seems nice, Al. He's scared of you. Just put your shadow masher away."
Alward appraises Gau once more, noticing the feral boy's unmoving gaze and defensive stance. He then hesitantly looks at the weapon in his hand, realising his offense. The axe disappears, as if scattering into a dazzling flash of light.
"Aaauuu!" Gau howls, standing upright and stretching his back, revealing himself to be the tallest of the three children by a considerable margin for their youth. "Thanks! Gau not hurt you, honest!"
Alward frowns, but makes no protest. "She's right, though. Mobliz is the only village around without crossing the sea. Where did you come from?"
"Gau from here!"
"Here...?" Erica asks. "You mean the Veldt?"
"Here! Gau only human out here, until you and Mr. Maniac show up."
"I have a name, you know!"
"Maniac with big shiny!" Gau retorts.
"Doesn't it get lonely out here by yourself?" Erica looks at Gau. "You must have someone else."
Gau smiles. "Gau not lonely! Gau friend with monsters, and nice girl still come see Gau sometimes. You nice girl, too."
"So there is someone else!" Erica concludes happily.
"Yeah, and monsters!" Alward adds. "Don't forget about that! What if he's in league with those shadows!?"
Everyone goes quiet for a moment, although Gau projects more confusion than the dread displayed by Alward and Erica. The tension is cut immediately, as the baby in Erica's arms is roused from its slumber and begins softly whimpering before bursting into full on tears and screaming.
"You're upsetting baby Leo, Al..."
The boy sighs. "Gau, I need you to listen very carefully." He says, while his companion goes off gently rocking the growing infant and trying to soothe it. "The village up North, Mobliz. It was destroyed by strange monsters, small and wirey. Black as shadows, and with an evil grin. Where a person's heart might be, there's... There's just this void, like it's there to mock us. Do you know them? Did you see where they came from?"
"Aauu..." Gau growls, leaning back and pondering for a bit. "Gau know monsters. Gau not see anything like that."
"If you're lying..." Alward glares.
"Aauuu! Gau not lie! Honest, honest!"

"You need to learn to relax," Morgan said just toying with Jenka. "Besides what's this scribble on it, wouldn't it just ruin the album," Morgan said holding the album just out of reach from the water. "Oh well if you want to see your album again you know where to find me," Morgan teased Jenka. "Just think without me your lazy behind would probably just have wasted your day today, bye Lazy Jenka," Morgan taunted Jenka as she began to take off at full speed.

"I was relaxing before you showed up! And that's a damned signature from the band's frontman!" Giving chase, Jenka wondered if it would've been easier for him to work out on a regular basis, instead of dealing with her harassment. Then again, she'd probably still do it, so it might be a moot point.

"Geez hopefully, he still remembers where our favorite spot is?" Morgan said with her legs dangling over the cliff. "Maybe I should have slowed up just a bit? Nah" Morgan said while shrugging her shoulder. "Oh well I even went to the trouble of picking up his favorite snack oh well," Morgan said just gazing out towards the town. "Hopefully, slow poke doesn't keep me waiting to long, wouldn't want his snback to get ruined," Morgan said to herself when all of a sudden she heard footsteps in the distance. "Took you long enough slowpoke," Morgan shouted out towards Jenka in the distance.

"You know you are so cute when your curse like that," Morgan told Jenka. "Besides lighten up, Jenka you really think I would ruin something so freaking close to you and here I thought I met something to you too jerk," Morgan told Jenka playfully with a smile while leaning back to be close to him. "Here you go cutie," Morgan said handing Jenka his album in perfect condition, along with a paper bag containing his favorite snack. "All I wanted to do was see if you wanted to come up here and just chat like back in the good old days?" Morgan asked staring at Jenka.
"You still remember the first day we met when we were freshman in high school?" Morgan asked. "Unless you forgotten already?" Morgan asked while just laying on the ground, staring into the sky, while waiting for Jenka to answer.

"Yeah, yeah, I had my earbuds too loud, I've already told you a thousand times I won't do it again. You need to stop pulling this s***. You've got class to go to, don't you? Go. You don't have time to waste like this," he said, turning away, caressing the album's case.

"Come on you know I like going to class just as much as you do," Morgan said to Jenka. "Besides why do you care if I go to class or not meanie?" Morgan said sticking her tongue out at Jenka.
"Fine I was going to ask you something important but I guess I can ask you after class tommrrow," Morgan said making her way to Jenka. In order to get Jenka's attention she swiftly kick his legs out causing him to fall back into her...arms. "You might have forgotten but I still remember, meeting a quiet youth, blasting my favorite song from his music player, skipping class to go talk to him, finding out we like most of the same things," Morgan told Jenka while he was in her arms.
"Now do you remember or do I have to hound you the entire way back?" Morgan asked Jenka. "Unless you are feeling gutsy and you think you can outrun me?" Morgan asked Jenka with a mischievous smile.

"Fine I will go to class Jenkie," Morgan said releasing Jenka from her embrace. "But promise me you will meet me after my afternoon class," Morgan told Jenka in a serouis tone. "It's really important and I ....," Morgan said trailing off. "Just know I have an important question for you okay," Morgan told Jenka.

"Sure, sure. Get going." Turning away again, Jenka thought about getting a snack before getting back home, but remembered he had left his window open, and Morgan had given him a snack anyway. So he needed to rush, and wouldn't need to worry about eating.

I've been in Twilight town for three months now. Turns out I fit in quite nicely. I didn't have...parents, so Sara, Jill's mother, offered me a place there. I tried to deny it, but... Mothers. I picked up and studied hard in the 11th grade to manage with the other students. Nearly all my classes are aligned with Jill. I never was much of an athlete until I joined the football team.
"Hey, Hunts, catch!" A jock yells from across the field, sending the football sailing across. Hunts, or what Salem had chosen or his last name, outstretched his hands, carefully making sure he wasn't in a position that would earn him a tackle. With a huff, he cradled the ball, taking off. He was followed by a trail of others, each attempting to stop him. He made it across the line.
He had successfully achieved a victory for the school, his first actually. After a few pats on the back and lifts into the air, Salem took off the helmet with the torch logo. The rest of the day passed quickly for him, and he found himself carrying a backpack on the way home, loaded with homework.
"I hate studies." He grumbled, trudging up the steps to the household. Sara was working late tonight and had told him to cook his own food in advance. But where was Jill?
Footsteps followed him, creeping up behind him with agility. Salem contemplated summoning the weapon he hadn't used in three months, but grinned as he ducked. A body flew right past him, landing in the floor. "Oof!"
Salem shook his head at Jill, "When will you learn?" He asked mirth fully, extending a hand. Jill rolled to her side, standing at record speed. "No fair, your reflexes are better than ever. Oh well, there's always a next time. How was the game?" Jill opened her door, eyebrow raised with wonder.
Salem opened the guest room, tossing his things on the bed. "Good really. I think Todd dislocated his shoulder."
Jill followed him in, landing on the bed. She picked up the remote, flipping through channels on the tv. "And there we have it folks, victims without hearts! The enforcers are befuddled by this turn of events! The victims have claw marks, but what is this strange phenomena happening around Twilight town?!" The newsman exclaimed dramatically.
Salem froze, reading the headlines. "Heartless...victims?" He said slowly. Warning bells rung in his head. Destiny islands... His family. He scowled, snatching the remote and turning off the tv. "Hey!" Jill protested, glowering.
"Sorry, but walk home with me from now on." He grinned goofily. He didn't want to alert her that something was up.
Jill wiggled her eyebrows. "Are you-"
"Nope, just making sure you are safe, Jill." He interjected. Though, his face would have told otherwise. Besides, he didn't want to get side tracked in his studies. He was sure Sara would kill him anyway.
Jill laughed. "Okay, but I'm telling you nothing will happen."
Salem wasn't convinced. "If they do, I'll fight them off!" He joked, sitting on the bed as well. Jill had became a close friend during this time, and Salem was starting to hate the teenage stage a lot during those times.
"Isn't your birthday tomorrow? We're almost done with this year of school. And it's April." Jill smiled. Salem snapped out of his reverie. He had completely forgotten about his birthday...
"Yep, the big seventeen. I'm hoping to get into college a year earlier than everyone else... Except for you." He added at the last minute.
Jill nodded, dozing off. Her head landed on Salem's shoulder. Startled, but not uncomfortable, he allowed her too. Later, Sara called saying she would be home until morning. Despite his better judgement, Salem tucked Jill in, and locked the doors to the house. "Don't leave the house for your sake." He thought. He had changed into a simple black jacket, shirt, shoes and pants with his signature necklace of an angels wing.
It was night, just when the happenings occurred. Salem summoned Phantom Heart, and left towards the dark streets.

The Next Day -------------
"Stupid test," Morgan bemoaned. "Usually, I am the first one done but this test for some reason," Morgan sighed. "Cheaters had to go and make the test hard and everything," Morgan continued. "Hope Jenka isn't too mad, I want to ask how he feels about me because recently I started developing feelings for him," Morgan thought to herself. "Still I know how he gets when I keep him waiting," Morgan sighed as she got outside of the building.
"Where is he did he forget?" Morgan said when she, exited the building. When Morgan saw that nobody was outside she went to go search for him. Morgan would eventually, find him but out wasn't what she expected. Morgan found a strange shadow like creatures with yellow eyes and antannes, and her close friend was laying there beaten and battered and not moving.
"What is this thing?" Morgan said slowly backing away from the shadow like creature. "What did it do to Jenka?" Morgan asked in horror. "What can I do?, How can I fight this thing?" Morgan said as she began to run. "I have to get help, I don't want to lose Jenka, somebody anybody help," Morgan said while looking to get help

The day was far slower. He saw and felt everything, starting when the young man approached in class. "Yo, stop f***ing staring at her, you don't stand a chance." "Keep your opinions to yourself, a**." The punch didn't hurt so much, not compared to seeing the girl laughing at the front. Falling out of his seat, he began to hate her too. The pain didn't really intensify as the hits continued to come, but an odd, numb feeling did, along with the hate. Hate for her, for him, for all the students sitting in class not doing a thing, for the late professor. Several minutes later, his hate spread out to the security guard who didn't help, instead nearly arresting Jenka for how he was acting. As he stumbled away from class early, he was allowed time to think on it. And this just led to him hating them all more thoroughly. Who was he to tell him where to look? Who was she to laugh while some guy beat on another? Who the f*** was the security guard to tell him he needed to calm down?! He found himself standing near a cliff, unsure why. He couldn't escape the thought that he was forgetting something. Someone? No, it doesn't matter. What's important is that people are awful, heartless creatures, and they need to be taught a lesson. A lesson. He felt like his skull was splitting open, his entire body getting tense as he coughed up blood. The shadows bursting from the wounds in his body wrapped around him, and new holes split open to allow for more. Writhing, twisting, the tendrils flew about, clawing at the air, ground, and his skin. His blood dripped onto the floor and seemed to pulse, popping up rhythmically, all the puddles in unison. His body fell backwards as he gripped his head, but his now-blackened form remained standing, eyes ablaze. He wanted to scream, but couldn't even feel where his mouth was anymore. As the pain subsided, he felt a strong desire to turn around, to run in that direction. Jenka looked ahead at the college, and decided what he was feeling must be fear. Fear of tearing their throats out like he wanted, giving up that thing they called humanity. He knew they were still in the class, he was the only one that left. He fought the feeling, dashing forward, barely touching the ground, as he thought that it didn't matter if he had any "humanity." Humanity doesn't have any, after all.
It had been a couple hours. Their blood had long fell away from his hands, after the shadows faded. Now, in some odd place, a place he decided must be another world, he began to reflect on what he had done. The young man died plainly, screaming out expletives. The security guard put up a noble fight, not that it meant much. The girl, though, she was fun to kill. She wasn't laughing, and that made Jenka feel good. Looking at the creatures passing him by, Jenka wondered what they were. Perhaps they're like him. They certainly seem shadowy, like he was not too long ago. He looked human now, and that confused him. Sticking his earbuds in his ears, he decided to think about it when he woke up. He couldn't escape the feeling he was forgetting something. Someone...

Standing? Cyprian's legs crumpled beneath him as he was freed from his crystal prison. Why? What happened? The truth dawned on him as he could no longer sense Dahaka, the fal'Cie who branded him. What had transpired to cause such a thing? What was his focus, and why? Where was she?
He staggeredly stepped forward, out into the open, slowly making his way back towards the one spot where she would be.
---
It took him two months, two months of pain, misery, and newfound power. He could adapt, learn, grow, and change. Was this what being a l'Cie meant? However, that two months came to an abrupt end as he reached his destination, their last home camp. She wasn't here. The camp had only even touched by time, nothing else. Yet, there it was, the spear, beaten and tarnished, lying just on the outskirts of the camp. She couldn't be dead, could she? No, he had gone too far, this couldn't be right. He looked into the sky as the first drops of rain began to fall. His fate was to become a Cie'th now. He had nothing to live for, and no focus that he knew of. His heart darkened as he sat there, allowing the tears of the sky to overtake his own, until a great presence materialized, calling to him. A towering figure, one of metal in the form of a giant, stood, a billowing garb covering its body and a metal plate atop its head. It pulled a long blade as Cyprian prepared his own. This was doom. Cyprian stood still and unflinchingly took the blow from the giant's katana. After all, there was nothing else to live for, no person to protect, no focus to fulfill. All he had left was to become a Cie'th, and by dying here, to this beast, would spare him from killing a traveler after he converts. After taking several more blows, the mechanical monster halted, only to continue using the back of its hand to swat at Cyprian. Even it took pity on him.

Salem had ventured out every night, but so far hadn't managed to find a single trace of these heartless as he called them. He blinked tiredly as he fell on his bed. Luckily, Jill and Sara were asleep, and hadn't heard him come in. He slept not long after.

Days turned into week, and weeks, months. It occurred to Salem that he had been here for 10 months. This time he had finally gotten a lead, and left the house. Unbeknownst to him, Jill was awake and followed him.
She watched in silent awe as he summoned his Keyblade, vanishing down a dark alley. She followed silently, intent on seeing where he went.
