Thats not necessarily true. Silicon based life could persist in cold temperatures if it was suspended by the right solvent. After all if it weren't for water carbon based life would hardly be able to work at all. I think there are theories of silicon biology using liquid methane as a water analogue, but that requires the opposite temperature extreme.

HOLY CRAP! I just realized that if the only species on Earth that was saved was our own, then that means there's no more chicken, pork or beef left in the universe!
In light of this new information, I propose we retcon that bit of lore.

So, I've decided to pull a HunterxHunter with Omega. I'll avoid spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen the anime, but there is a character named Myurem, who was basically Cell; the ultimate being created to conquer the world. He even looked like Cell.
Anyway, he was changed by meeting a little girl, and turned into a tragic character. I've decided to do something similar with Omega.
