"Hey Cass I was just wondering something....," Carleen was saying. "Umm never mind its nothing.... I think," Carleen said. "Sorry I know I am still new to the group and well its okay," Carleen said.

Micah bites his lip, clearly hesitant. He's already trusted her with knowledge of Scarlet, but still... After a long moment of silence, he takes a deep breath and asks, "Have you heard of Shadow Pokemon, Commander?"
Lilia playfully headbutts Flareon and then dances out of reach, urging him to try and catch her. She was too elegant to wrestle. It was unbecoming of a lady. Tag, on the other hand, was perfectly acceptable.

Vern decides it might be best to make himself scarce. "Hey, uh, c'mon Quills. Me 'n' Sue're gonna go fishin', see if we can't find dinner. Give us a hand."
"Fish! Fish! Dinner! Every night, fish dinner!" Quills echoes someone's complaints excitedly - the baby Ho-oh loves it.
Vern, Sue, and Quills head off to leave the two ladies alone. "What's buggin' ya, Carla?" Cassandra asks. "It's not like you to be so down." Flareon needs no further invitation and pounces repeatedly at Lilia. "Be nice, Whammy, remember she's an ice-type," Corva reminds him. "No fire."
"Flare!" he barks in agreement, even as he tries to circle around and attack from the side.
Corva rocks her head back and forth in consideration. "Shadow Pokemon, shadow Pokemon... Hm... Yep! I've heard of them somewhere before. Something about shadow Pokemon and StarBurst? But it didn't seem like something I really needed to know much about to kill Nova good. I leave that sort of thinking stuff to Jupiter. So I don't really know anything about them."

"Hey Anna, if you don't mind," Carleen said.
"Fleeon, Fleeon, Fleeetcching," Anna said as she flew after Vern, Quills, and Sue.
"Well Cass me and Vern were talking because well just things," Carleen said. "Vern seems like the dad or at least big brother of the group," Carleen said to Cass. "Anyways this is what me and Vern were talking about," Carleen said to Cass.
Carleen proceeds to tell Cass about the conversation between her and Vern.
After Yuzu was done talking to Grace she went back to Pika. "Pika Pika chuuuu," Pika said to Yuzu.
"Missed you to Pika," Yuzu said to Pika.
"Pika Pika Pikachu Pi Pikaaaa Pi Pi Pikachu," Pina said to Yuzu. Pika was pointing towards Vern, Quills and Sue. "Pika Pika Pikachu," Pika said as he made a motion like he was fishing with his tails.
"Sure, looks like fun," Yuzu said.
Yuzu and Pika made there way to Vern and the other Pokémon.

Micah thinks for a few minutes how best to explain. Meanwhile, Lilia and Flareon continue chasing each other around in circles, yipping excitedly at each other. Lilia proves quite the elusive catch. Micah smiles, watching them. He hadn't seen Lilia so happy and playful with anyone other than him or Scarlet in a long time.
"Shadow Pokemon are... Tragic creatures," Micah says finally, his voice quiet. "They were first created many years ago in the Orre region by an organization dedicated to creating the most powerful Pokemon. They experimented on Pokemon, artificially closing their hearts and turning them into emotionless killing machines. These Pokemon who had their hearts closed developed new powers and became much stronger, shadowy versions of themselves. They were called Shadow Pokemon. The organization that created Shadow Pokemon was eventually destroyed, but the research remained. Nova picked up where they left off and perfected the Shadow Pokemon Project. The original Shadow Pokemon could be purified, and their hearts reopened, but these new versions Nova created..."
Micah takes a deep breath. "Shadow Pokemon are immune to Starburst. They are much more powerful than their normal counterparts. They kill without remorse, and only obey the orders of their trainer. Their emotions and feelings are repressed to the point of being virtually nonexistent. They are engines of pure destruction. A lot of Nova higher ups have them."
Micah looks down at the remaining Pokeballs at his waist, a look of sorrow passing over his features. "... Both my Salamence and Gardevoir are Shadow Pokemon. I've been searching for another way to return them to normal... To open their hearts... To no avail. I've managed to reach them somewhat, so I know it's possible... I just don't know how. But I always make a point to try, especially before a mission where I know I might need their help."

Vern takes a seat at the seaside and calls out Sue. She curls up around Vern and coos happily. He pats her a bit then baits his rod. He tosses it into the water and looks up to notice the gathering crowd of Pokemon. "Er... hi, guys? Are ya all here to help me? Uh... I'm pretty sure Sue and I can handle it. If you get bored, y'know..." Cassandra tussles Carleen's hair. "Aw, Carla! That's so... cute! I didn't know you wanted to be with us so much!" "Shadow Pokemon..." Corva looks at Micah quietly for a bit. "If you need to play with them alone for a bit, I can leave. This is going to be a dangerous mission. Hehe... With a lot of Nova for Corva to kill..."
Jolteon continues to wait off to the side, lying down as it observes Whammy and Lilia impassively.

Micah shakes his head. "No, it's alright Commander. I can make some time later, it's not urgent."
He looks over at Lilia and smiles. "Besides, I don't want to break them up just yet.... I've never seen Lilia so playful and energetic, not even around me and Scarlet. It's... Refreshing."
And it reminds me what I'm fighting for.
Lilia allows Flareon to come very close to catching her, then playfully barks at him and bounds away. She prances over to Jolteon and plops down in front of it, resting her head on her paws and wagging her tails excitedly. All nine of them.

"Well Cass, its just your the first group to truly make me feel like I belong," Carleen said. "Even when I used to travel with others I always felt like the odd man out abd with you guys," Carleen said. "I actually feel like a part of something for once, like me and my Pokémon actually have a place where we can fit in even if one is being a brat right now," Carleen said.
"Oh and I am sorry I brought up physcic types I didn't know," Carleen said very apologetically.
"Pika Piiikaaa," Pika said as he went towards the water edge. "Pika Pikachu," Pika said as he dipped his tail into the water while waving towards Yuzu.
"Umm Pika be careful," Yuzu said very concerned of Pika.
"Piiiikkkaaachu," Pika said very dismissively. "Pi Pi Pi PIKAAAAAAAAA," Pika said as a sharp pain ran through his tail. Pika quickly pulled up his tail and a Corphish was attached to the other end. Pika began running as fast as he could and shaking his tail as hard as he could to get the Corphish off. Pika finally managed to shake off the Corphish who afterwards just looked at Pika very annoyed
"Cor Cor Corp Corphish," Corphish told Pika annoyed at him.
"Pika Pika Pikachu," Pika replied to Corphish.
"Cor Cor Cor Phish Phish Phiiiish," Corphish replied.
"Pikkkkaa, Pika Piiiiii," Pika replied balling up his paw.
"Corphish," Corphish replied as he made clamping motions with his claws.
"Pikachu," Pika said as electricity danced across his cheeks.
"Pika calmed down I know your upset but you asked for it by using your tail as a fishing rod," Yuzu said to Pika.
"Piiiikkka, Pika Pika Pikachu Piiiiikaaa," Pika said to Yuzu.
"Cor Cor Corphish Cor Cor Corphish Corrr," Corphish said making his way towards Yuzu.
"No I am rather found of Pika," Yuzu told Corphish.
"Corphish Corrrrr Corphish phish," Corphish told Yuzu.
"Wait how do you know Pikas mom?" Yuzu asked.
Pika was pissed at Corphish at this point.
"That's it both of you," Yuzu said as she began to sing. The song had a soothing effect on both the Corphish and Pika who both calmed down. After the song Corphish wandered over towards Pika and apologized. Pika returned the gesture and apologized to Corphish.
"Fletching," Anna said.

Vern leans back on Vaporeon. He and Sue stare at the argument between Pika and Corphish in confusion. He shrugs. "Hey, nice work there, Pika. Corphish are pretty good eatin'. I'm sure the others'll appreciate a nice change from fish-fish. Hey, Quills, go ahead and fry it up for us, eh?"
Quills flaps excitedly. "Ho-oh! Fish, fish, fish! Good eatin'!" Cassandra looks a bit guilty. "Yeah, uh... Jude's girlfriend kinda... got killed by one of her psychic types during the... y'know. Nova. It was... bad. Really bad. But don't... worry about it, I should've warned you. And Jude's not going to hold it against you, he just needs a minute to cool off. He's touchy about talking about the gym, since... I mean, there used to be 8 of us. Not counting people who were only members for a while. And... well... Now there's only 3 of us left." Cassandra grabs Carleen in a hug. "Hehe... Well, 4." Jolteon observes Lilia, unimpressed. His meal done, he lies down and yawns. Whammy crouches down and waits for Lilia to finish with Jolteon so they can get back to their game. Sync wanders over and curiously bats at Lilia's tails. Leafeon continues to hide behind Corva.
"Well, let's give them a few more minutes," Corva suggests. "And we can have another playdate after the mission."

"Aww thank you Cass," Carleen said hugging Cass. "Yet before I become official I need to get my own Eevee, unless does a cos play Fletching count?" Carleen giggled.
"This group Nova, I haven't seen any of there crimes first hand," Carleen said. "That was another thing I had a concern with when talking to Vern," Carleen said to Cass. "I never had to fight another person and I never had to ask my Pokémon to attack another person," Carleen told Cass. "I am just very concerned about what if I hestistate or what if I just can't do it," Carleen said. "Hiding isn't an option because this fight is important to my family and friends but Vern already said he would," Carleen said to Cass.
"Cass would you help train me also?" Carleen asked.
"PPHHHIIIISSSSHHHH," Corphish said at the mentioned of being cooked. "Cor Cor Core Corphish cor, Cor," Corphish pleaded to Yuzu. "Corphish, Corphish, Phish Phisph, Core," Corphish said to Yuzu.
"Umm Mr. Vern Corphish is very sorry he said," Yuzu said to Vern. "He has a wife, kids, little Corphishes to feed," Yuzu said. "He promises to be a good Corphish, and he will never snap at tails again, no matter how tempting they look," Yuzu said.
"Corophish," Corphish said.
"Oh and Corphish, wait what is that suppose to mean," Yuzu wondered.
Corphish then asked Pika to help act out something. Pika and Corphish had a mock battle where Corphish proceeded to act like he fainted. Pika then made a motion where he was throwing a pokeball.
"Corphish Corphish Core, Cor, Core Phhhisshhhh," Corphish said.
"He said if you let him live he can tell you where all the best fishing spots are," Yuzu said. "Oh and apperantly he wants to come with us too," Yuzu said.

"Well, of course, Carla! All you had to do was ask. So, what kinda training do you want to do?" Cassandra asks. Vert considers Corphish for a moment. "Eh, we don't really have any pokeballs to waste. And I'm pretty well set for water types. I'd rather have a nice steamed Corphish... Mm..." His mouth waters at the thought. "But if he can really help us find some better fishing spots... Hm. Alright, I'll let you go if you can show me a good place to catch some nice, tasty Krabby. Or at least some Goldeen. Even I'm getting sick of Magikarp and Feebas."

Legendary Pokemon are known for having ways of getting around undetected. The Legendary Beasts were once infamous for being able to suddenly appear and disappear without a trace. Mew was once thought to be extinct, with only fossils remaining. Some of them were so elusive and so rare that they were dubbed "Mythical" or even "Mirage" Pokemon. The title is no accident.
Before Nova arrived, several Hoennites had reported sighting of what they would call "Mirage Islands". They were small bits of land popping up out of the region's vast seas, visible for about a day and then vanishing without a trace. The sightings were often chalked up to illusions, glitches, or excessive amounts of alcohol, especially since whenever anyone tried to fly or sail out towards one they would disappear. And when the day eventually came and Nova had attacked the world, no Mirage Islands were ever seen again.
Few humans ever come to understand this kind of phenomenon. It's not that the concept is incomprehensible, it's just that humans are oh so very quick to write odd things like this off as myth. Take another example: Celebi's ability to time-travel. As the Pokedex might tell you, Celebi only appears during times of peace. While that might sound horrendously arbitrary, written by some research assistant to sound good in terms of lore, it is actually due to the effect War has on time as a whole. War causes such monumental change in the timelines of so many people that time stream of a war-torn era is impenetrable form the outside and impossible to navigate. As a result, Celebi can only ever travel from one era of peace to another.
However, if Celebi just happened to oversleep one morning and woke up after the entire world had declared war on itself, it would lose its ability to time travel away, trapped in the series of events to come.
So these Mirage Islands that seem to only exist for a day at a time every few weeks, they're not hallucinations. They're just islands with independent timelines that appear when they synchronize with the timeline of the rest of the world. For smaller islands, this used to happen a few times a month. Although as one former Pacifidlog Town resident stated, there is at least one very large Mirage Island that had only appeared once in his life time.
For the most part, when the war started, the storm of timelines in its wake sealed the Mirage Islands away. Thankfully the Pokemon that inhabited them were therefore safe from Nova and, thanks to Celebi's early efforts, there is enough species variety on each of them to later help repopulate the world. The timelines were de-synchronized to the point that they'd appear for maybe a few minutes each year, and for the largest one, an hour each century. Outside of that time, only Celebi had any way of accessing them.
Of course, inside that time, anyone could find the place...
Location: Mirage Island
"-And that is why we have to kick them out." Celebi finished.
Celebi was in the Island's nursery, a deep warm cavern tucked away hidden in a cliff-side. It used to be a safe place to store the eggs she had managed to collect over the years (Mesprit. Zapdos. Ho-oh. Terrakion. And many others) all hidden away, waiting to reincarnate after their horrible run-ins with Nova. Recently though, they needed this space for a much larger occupant, and so she asked the Wynauts to hide them elsewhere. They had varying amounts of success.
"I still insist they are innocent. They have taken good care of Ho-oh. And Melo- sorry, Yuzu now, trusts them. They deserve sanctuary just as much as we do."
Celebi's conversation partner, Cresselia. Ever the kind soul. Too much sympathy. Not enough utilitarianism.
"This ecosystem can't support so many additional mouths to feed. Especially mouths as big as humans! You saw what they wanted to do to the Corphish, right?"
"Corphish aren't an endangered species..."
Cresselia was suddenly distracted from her argument by her patient. The new occupant of the Nursery, Volcanion, had started to wake up again. Its stirring was violent but sluggish. Steam began to erupt from the pools of water around it as its reactor arms began hitting the ground in an attempt to wake up.
Celebi quickly flitted around to Volcanion's face, crushing a Mental Herb and pressing it against its fevered forehead. Knowing it must be hungry, she slipped an apple into its mouth, and watched it chew automatically. Its eyes were glazed over. It probably barely registered it was eating right now.
Cresselia's eyes were closed. Its healing wasn't nearly enough to cleanse the psychoactive toxins from Volcaion's body, and Celebi's own natural cures were equally ineffective. Suicune or Shaymin might have stood a better chance at helping...if the former wasn't corrupted itself, and the latter wasn't completely MIA. All Cresselia could do is help it return to sleep, offering a peaceful escape from an otherwise living nightmare.
"...We'll talk about this later. You take care. I'm going to meet Landorus for a report."
Celebi's wings fluttered and it shot out of the cave.

"Corphish, Phish Phishhhh, Cor, Corr," Corphish said.
"Umm okay if you insist?" Yuzu said. "Corphish insists on following us and as a gesture of good faith will lead us to a good fishing spot," Yuzu said to Vern.
"Cor Cor Cor Corphish Corphish phish phish," Corphish said as he began leading the group of Mon and Vern towards the area.
"Corphish Cor Cor Cor Cor Phish Phish Cor," Corphish said as he hoped into the water. "Corphishhhhhhhhh," Corphish said as he crab hammered a Goldeen onto the land. "Corphish, Corphish Corrrrr," Corphish said to Pika.
"Pika, Pikkkaachu," Pika said as he used thunderbolt on the Goldeen.
"Corppphhhhiiissshhhhhh," Corphish said as he used Crabhammer on a passing Krabby, sending the unsuspecting Krabby flying onto the land. Pika followed up with another Thunderbolt to knock out the Krabby.
The process would continue until the ground had a nice collection of Goldeens, Krabbies, a couple of Sea Kings and even one Kingler that Corphish and Pika both had to take on together.
"Hmmm well maybe we can start training tommorow morning Cass, it has been a long day," Carleen said. "By the way maybe we can get some melee training in, oh and maybe learn how to weild those guns," Carleen said. "Oh maybe learn how to sync up me and my Pokemon's move," Carleen said.

Cassandra tilts her head thoughtfully. "That's... a really good idea, Carly! Practicing syncing fighting in tandem with out Pokemon? I never thought of that! Ha... you're so clever. Um... I don't know about shooting practice, cause we might need the bullets later, but we can definitely spar with melee weapons and Pokemon! As soon as Vert gets back with dinner we can eat and hit the hay. Oh, I'm so excited! Heehee - I can't wait for tomorrow. It's going to be so much fun!" Vern grabs his head in panic. "Ah! What're ya two thinkin'!? Stop, stop! Jeez! Don't you two know anything about overfishing!? Ack...!"
"Pore." Sue nudges him.
He takes a deep breath and calms down. "OK. Alright. Now listen up ya li'l terrors o' the deep. I get that ya can empty the area of all its Pokemon, but ya shouldn't. A fisher only takes what he needs ta survive. Gotta leave the rest ta breed and make a new generation o' fish fer ya ta catch." Vern adjusts his hat and continues speaking with an uncharacteristic authority. "Futhermore, takin' too much o' any one type o' Pokemon in one area ain't good. It changes the rel'tive ratios and means other things can breed and grow more 'r' less 'n' they norm'ly could, get it?"
"Get it!" Quills nods.
"Right, so. Let's put it all together. So we take all the Goldeen now, and there ain't gonna be enough Goldeen ta breed later, and we'll end up with a big ol' population o' nasty Magikarp. And if we take too many Krabby, they ain't gonna control the Tentacool population 's well as normal, and the Tentacool 'll eat a bunch o' the other fish, ta boot. So, do ya two understand? Keep the oldest-lookin' stuff, leave plenty o' breedin' stock. So... Uh... Yuzu, Sue, Quills? I need ya ta supervise. Ya'll take back the Kingler 'n' Seaking. That's plenty big o' meal fer all o' us." He tosses out a pair of Pokeballs. Vileplume and an Arcanine pop out. "Jam, give 'em a hand carryin'. Antoinette 'n' I'll help fix up th' rest and return 'em to the ocean."
"Fish! Fish! Fish!" Ho-oh protests. "So much fish!"
"Aw, can it, ya greedy l'il bugger. You'll get plenty."

Pika and Corphish look confused about the concept of overfishing and that stuff. "Corphish, Cor Cor Corphish Corp Corphish Cor," Corphish said to Yuzu. "Corphish Cor Cor," Corphish added.
"Umm Mr. Vern to be fair Corphish said, you told him to get you alot of fish to avoid being eaten himself,". "He was just doing his part to not get eaten, Corphish,". "Wait why did you add that Corphish at the end?" Yuzu wondered.
"Pika Pikachu, Piiiikaaa," Pika said. Pika proceeded to do his imitation of a fisher and started fishing. "Pika, Piiiii, Pikachu," Pika said to Yuzu.
"Pika you know better," Yuzu scolded him. "Mr. Vern Pika said he was sorry right Pika," Yuzu told Pika.
"Pika," he said while shrugging his shoulders. Pika then proceeded to hand Vern a Magikarp that was knocked out by Pika and Corphish. Afterwards Pika and Corphish proceeded to congratulate one another weLl that's what it sounded like between the barrage of Pikas and Phish. Plus the high five the two of them shared to.
"Hey Cass wouldn't it be cool if you and your Pokemon could actually as one?" Carleen asked. "I mean see and hear the things they do,". "I mean imagine if me and say G NINJA could become really in sync,". "Ehhh I guess for now all we can do is train," Carleen sighed.
"So Cass what did you train in and how did you become good at it?" Carleen asked.

Vern accepts the Magikarp in annoyance. "Just... take stuff back, I need to fix all this. Jam?"
"Arc." Jam takes the Magikarp in his mouth. Quills flies over and settles on his back and the pair starts back to camp.
"Alright, then. We need to get to work. Annie-"
"Pluuuuume," she protests.
"Right, right, Antoinette." Vern rolls his eyes. "Anyway. You try to wake them up. Sue, once they're up, we'll use Aqua Ring and Baton Pass to patch them up."
"Pooooore," she protests.
"Yeah, it is going to be a lot of work..." Vern looks at the mountain of unconsciousPokemon and groans. "Let's just get it done. Hopefully dinner'll be waiting for us, at least." Cassandra shrugs. "I'm not really good with any weapon. I guess I'm just not much of the soldier-type. My dad taught me some martial arts, but that doesn't usually really help against people with guns. That's why they give me the grenades. They're real easy to use. Just pull the pin and throw at whatever's making trouble, and..." She pantomimes an explosion. "Boom! No more problem." Micah nods. Corva lets their Pokemon play for a bit longer, but eventually has to call them back. She hides everyone but Kon and Shade and brings Micah back to camp.
Once there, Corva wastes no time. The others are already geared up and set to go. Corva grabs the rest of her gear while the others go about their various pre-mission rituals. Dragon sits quietly in the corner, carefully arranging the spare shotgun shells on her bandolier, spinning them to ensure they're all facing perfectly the same way. She finishes and proceeds to tap her foot impatiently as she waits, pausing to wipe a drop of mud off the toe. Her shotgun's already perfectly cleaned and maintained, she's not going to risk messing it up. She never polishes her Pokeball.
Corva comes back out of her room spinning her beret on a finger and giggling. "Everyone ready? Hehe... Today's gonna be so, so good! Hehehe... Everyone knows the plan, right? It's real easy. You listen to Micah while Corva's gone, 'K? And make sure to kill lots and lots of Nova."
Ice raises his fist and grins. "You got it, Boss."
"Shall we?" Corva asks.
Dragon jumps up. "Yes, ma'am. We're ready to go." She wraps an arm around Corva. Corva scoops her up, opens a portal, and steps through.
Steel watches the pair disappear, then turns to Micah. He's clearly fighting back the urge to let out a heavy sigh. "Well, then. Your orders?"

Corva steps out of the portal into the Hoenn Safari Zone and sets Dragon down. "So-o-o-o-o. Are ya ready, Dragie-poo?"
"D-Dragie-poo... ma'am...?"
"Hehe... Sorry. Li'l Micah's got a li'l bit of a crush... Poor kid probably never... Well, Corva's gonna have some fun with him. A bit of flirting, tease him some. Let him have some fun and work it out of his system. And let him get some practice so when he finds a girl his age he's not completely clueless. Then let him down ni-i-i-i-ice and easy."
Dragon scratches her head. "Er..."
Corva leans in and cocks her head. "You think Corva shouldn't?"
"W-well, it's objectively not a great plan," Dragon admits. "But it's also not your worst plan ever. But that's mostly because you come up with so many terrible ideas. Like this raid. Which is what we should be focusing on for now, ma'am.""
"Oh, yeah..." Corva mutters as she suddenly remembers where they are. "Dragie-poo, why're you distracting Corva? We can gossip about Ghost more later." They popped out on a small ridge. Down below, there's two small cabins flanking a moderately large research facility, all surrounded by a faint, shimmering barrier. A few guards are patrolling within, but their shield's left them complacent and the pair on the ridge are undetected. "Hehehe... They aren't paying attention~ And now they're going to die. Ready Dragie-poo?"
"Please stop calling me that, ma'am. And yes, I'm ready." She pulls the Pokeball from her belt. "Alright, Boom, just like we practiced... Just help Kalyke then head back, right?"
Corva accepts the ball and trades her one of her own. "No more Dragie-poo... OK, then. Remember Corva's warning, Cutie-pie?"
Dragon sighs, then nods. "If I let you die, you'll haunt me forever. And if I let something happen to Kon or Shade, you're going to kill me in the most horrific, torturous way you can think of, imprison my soul, summon my ghost, then force me to possess Nova soldiers so I can relive my own death 100 more times."
Corva claps her hands and smiles. "Yay! I'm so glad we understand each other. Now, Corva's gonna go get started, K?"

Corva steps through a portal and emerges hovering in mid-air just above the Nova outpost, then quickly drops to the roof. Nope, no anti-teleportation generator. This place must really not be important after all. Hopefully it'll still make a good distraction. Eh, if not, that's several Nova who get to die!
Corva opens the pair of Pokeballs and out pops Shade and Dragon's Noivern. Noivern lets out a Boomburst of sonic destruction to start the performance. It echoes relentlessly throughout the bubble barrier, shattering windows and causing the troops to drop their weapons and grab their ears in panic. Corva gives Shade a polite bow and offers her hand. Shade accepts it, and the pair begin to sing a hideous, screeching duet.
Five seconds, the first troops begin to recover from their shock. Ten seconds, they manage to pick up their weapons and stand up. Fifteen seconds, they zero in on Corva and her partners singing on the roof.
Corva takes a ball in either hand and recalls the Pokemon, offering a polite curtsy. Bullets begin to whiz overhead as she drops through a Phantom Force portal.
She steps out back next to Dragon and hands over the Pokeballs. "Naptime. Don't screw this up, Cutie-butt." She lets out a small yawn.
Dragon takes out her earplugs. "Please stop."
"If you kill them all, Corva will let you pick your next nickname..." She rubs her eyes. "OK, Kon, Shade... Be good for Dragon. Night-night..."
Corva drops to her knees. Dragon stoops down to catch her, and lowers her into a bush. Kon takes up watch over her sleeping form as Dragon, Boom, and Shade turn to the outpost. The barrier flickers, then fades. Dragon taps a few buttons on her watch. Five minutes.

Satisfied Corva's as safe as can be, Dragon hops off the ledge. Boom catches her and glides down to the outpost, while Shade trails behind. Dragon drops the last few feet, landing next to an unconscious Nova troop. She flicks the safety on her shotgun and puts a slug in his chest. She pumps another round into the chamber and takes aim at the next troop. She quickly progresses around the perimeter, repeating the process. Looks like most of the guards funneled out in confusion. Four minutes.
She signals Boom and Shade, then points at one hut. She loads some shells as she heads over to the other. She quietly pushes open the door and peers inside. The echoing Boomburst blew out the windows, and glass shards line the floor. A last few guards are asleep in various levels of preparation. No hesitation. Dragon finishes clearing the hut and rejoins Shade and Boom at the main building. She frowns at the sight of Boom's claws stained crimson. But that's the world they live in now. She double-checks her time. Three minutes.
It would be easiest to just burn this place to the ground, but the risk of collateral damage is unacceptable. She tries the door. Locked. She kicks it. Stronger than it looks. She pops out her ammunition and slips in a pair of armor-piercing slugs. Two shots at the locking mechanism, a light kick, and the door flies open. No one in the entrance. But Boom's too big to fit inside - she whistles and points to the ridge. A few seconds later, Kon comes jumping down while Boom takes his place. Kon doesn't seem enthused to be split from Corva, but Corva said to listen to the other. Two-thirty.
Dragon slowly moves along the corridor, stopping to briefly check some of the rooms while Kon and Shade handle the others. Broken glassware and spilled chemicals flood several of the labs; a few of the Nova scientists look like they're already dead from various accidents, and acrid-smelling chemicals flood the air. Dragon pulls out a cloth and ties it over her mouth as she continues her work. She spares a few seconds to look at some of the notes and work the Nova scientists were working on, and stuffs a few books into her pack. Doesn't look like anything particularly interesting or confidential was going on here - just morbid experiments on the safari zone's former inhabitants - but that's for the higher-ups to decide. One minute.
This safari zone... Dragon's never got to come by before all this, but she remembers her father taking her to the one in Kanto. She was too young to really appreciate it then, but now she gets it. Especially with all of this. It's going to take years for the Pokemon populations to recov-
A sharp, burning pain across her cheek snaps her out of her reverie. She panics for a heartbeat before realizing it was just splintering wood. She registers the gunshot and the scientist standing in the heart of the complex too late to avoid his first shot, but she backsteps and whirls around the door frame before the next two shots hit the wall. An old man with a pistol, she realizes after the fact. He didn't hear the song somehow - hearing loss? She signals to Shade and she pops into a portal. A second later comes the sound of Confuse Ray, and Dragon leaps out and fires two rounds to drop him. Thirty seconds.
This room's clearly the source of the barrier. So many cages. All clearly effected by Starburst. Dragon forces herself to focus on ransacking the research notes. She finds some strange prototype bazooka-like weapon and ties it to her belt, pocketing the notes and a PDA next to it. Her watch starts beeping. Time's up. Time to go. Corva won't be up for another several minutes, at least, but some of the enemies could start waking up in a minute or two, if Dragon missed any. But she's not leaving all these Starburst Pokemon to suffer for Nova.

Corva wakes up to find Dragon lying prone on the ridge overlooking the outpost. Her Pokeballs are already clipped back to her belt. Dragon didn't waste any effort trying to wake her up. Corva quietly crawls over to lie next to Dragon.
"You alright, ma'am?" Dragon asks quietly.
Corva lets out a small yawn and stretches. "Mmm... Yep. That was a good nap. Hehehehe... Corva sees a lot of corpses. Did you have fun?"
"No," Dragon says flatly. "But they're dead. All of them, as far as I can tell. We can't go back in to check, though. Too many chemicals in the air. I guess any that weren't dead before are now."
"Great!" Corva teasingly rubs Dragon's head. "You did good. Good, good. So, did you decide what new nickname you want?"
"Dragon's fine."
"Hmmm... Sure you don't want to be Corva's lit-?"
"Ma'am..." Dragon cuts her off, clearly out of patience.
Corva's silent for a minute. The barrier around the outpost didn't come back up. "I see..." She closes her eyes in prayer. She continues to rub Dragon's head, but now with a certain tenderness. "Don't worry. They're at peace now. You did good."
Dragon buries her face in her arms and mumbles something about giving her a few minutes. Corva lets her have some space and goes to examine some of the notes and whatnot Dragon recovered. Gathering intelligence. Just like Jupiter would want her to do. Most of the notes are well above her, though. These long ones - are these even words? But some of them look like cooking recipeswith really weird ingredients and tools and steps, complete with little doodles. Lots of stuff about pheromone lures and repellents. Corva's able to understand what that was for, at least. And some of these seem to be experiments for new and improved types of explosives. Acid bombs, poison gas grenades... Lots of other stuff, too. Seems like these safari guys were given a lot of free reign to play around.
Corva examines the weird gun-cannon thing Dragon brought. There's a sheet of notes next to it, shredded. Dragon seemed to be pretty upset by it - Corva manages to piece it together well enough to read the name. Pidgey Launcher? There's a PDA sitting next to it. She taps it and it immediately opens to a relevant e-mail chain. Dragon must've been reading it.
>hey so ive been thinking. you know how grunts used to tend to carry a bunch of junk pokemon? >Like Pidgeys and Zubats and whatnot? What about it? >not so important now but i used to want to figure out some use for all those useless trash and now that i have free time and resources ive been working on an invention for it. maybe you can find some application. >What is it? >pidgey launcher. >What. >pidgey launcher. >You're an idiot. What's a Pidgey launcher? >you stuff in a useless pokemons ball and it shoots it. then the pokemon pops out at almost 200mps in midflight. i made a fully functional prototype. >So you made a long-range Pokeball launcher. And the only application you can think of is killing Pidgeys? >and zubats. i hate those things. >Yeah, you're an idiot. But I can think of some potential uses. Take it out and see if it the Pokeballs it launchs could be used to catch Pokemon at long-range. Or maybe we could turn adapt it into a mortar system and fire Wailmers...? >but wailmers are lighter than air
Corva looks at the bazooka-looking thing and immediately drops it into a Phantom Portal to nowhere before chucking the PDA off the ridge. Dragon looks back in surprise as it sails over her head. "So how long was Corva asleep for?" she asks.
"Um... About a half hour?" Dragon estimates. "No sign of reinforcements yet."
"Hm, hm, hm... That's a long time. Well, let's give them a few more minutes. And if none show up, let's go see the others, huh? Maybe it's not too late to join in on the Nova-killing!"
