"I did have a contingency about this sort of thing, but it would be helpful if out most powerful asset besides Robo-quaza was still active." Katherine coughed before muttering under her breath. "Morpheus."

Robo-quaza? Did I hear that right?
"I'd be more worried about Neal, personally", said Joshua. "You might not have known this, but back in Sinnoh, 'Diane' got captured by Nova soldiers and got her memories read by a super-Medicham of sorts. Should they have more ways of reading people's memories, Neal might've unwittingly compromised key Xerneas intelligence and information. Even if your team has all but assimilated into Mewtwo, there's probably something important that the enemy would kill to have."

"We built in all sorts of fake information and such, and even permanently erased a few memories." Katherine explained as she sighed. "We couldn't do much without possibly destroying him, but a lot of the information they might have is false. We always considered the possibility that he might start working for the enemy, and he specifically told me that we should install some failsafes, which we did."

"A good idea in theory", said Joshua, "but I think you'll need to do a check on those failsafes. Anton almost captured Keldeo to take him to certain death or worse for an ultimately pointless reason."
Nova only cared about Zekrom, and the Dark Stone was far away from Keldeo's person at the time.
"Not only that, but he destroyed one of Mewtwo's bases single-handily by killing everyone there, and he's seemingly affiliated with a group on a certain Qwilfish-headed acquaintance's s***list that killed former Yveltal command. If he truly starts working for the enemy, I can't name any soldiers willing to fight an immortal.
...What I'm saying is, he's already well on the way of becoming a heavily public enemy of ours. Even if it's all his doing, you might just go down with him for being affiliated with the plan. Why not trigger the failsafes and pull out now; salvage what you can and stop before things get worse?"

"They already have been." Katherine told him as she glared at him.

"...Oh", was all Joshua could let out.
Great. I'm not supposed to become more convinced that Mewtwo was wrong in letting him go.
"...That doesn't mean there aren't options to bring Neal back, however. We can capture him and restore his memories from scratch, perhaps. You've done it before by making Anton in the first place."
I doubt "Anton" would be missed.

"Wait, it's not like they failed, they're just still in progress!" Katherine defended her claim. "It's not like it'll snap back instantly. He had it so that upon certain triggers, the new personality would fragment until Neal could resurface."

I'm beginning to wish I was a man of science. Then I'd be more able to understand how that works and the risks involved in making it work.
"That sounds like it has a good chance of not happening until it's too late", said Joshua. "Right now, you're gambling two things: that Anton doesn't do anything to really ruin everything and, now that he's a sacrifice, that Nova decides to let him live to dissect his inner workings and/or interrogate him about Xerneas and not take no chances with the immortal giant that was once on the opposite side of them and dump him in a titanium coffin 20,000 leagues under the sea or something."

"Did you not here me earlier?" Katherine sighed as she stood up. "We have a-wait..."
Katherine looked around before thinking about the possibility of hidden microphones and whispered into Joshua's ear.
"We have a robot dragon who could fish him out."

"...I have so many questions", Joshua whispered back, "but I don't think a robot can withstand that much water pressure, nor cut through titanium. You'd be better off with a Ghost-type."
I was only half-serious about the coffin example anyway.

"A legendary dragon cyborg who could bully another legendary monster into doing the work for him."

"Name one that is able to travel to the depths of the ocean to cut through titanium that's not dead, imprisoned by Nova, or missing."

"Do you not understand how strong titanium is?"

"Not as strong as a primordial god of the sea."

"Actually, it's probably stronger."

"Kyogre can bend the sea to his will, I'm pretty sure he could crush it like a tin can."

"That would tear Neal to pieces. And he'll never fully recover down there because the sea keeps crushing him before he can."
