For future reference, would anyone object if I were to have a Greninja make water-swords like he does in Smash Bros?

No, but only if it's part of an actual attack.

No, but only if it's part of an actual attack. Could be like Pokedex abilities that are innate and don't need a move slot. Kind of like how no Psychic type that can teleport seems to know the actual Teleport move, and no one can really think of a reason why Pokemon need to specifically know Tackle in order to be able to run into something else at high speeds. And because using Water swords when using the Dark Night Slash wouldn't feel right.

Moves like Tackle and such are more than just tackling. It's empowering the tackle.
Plus, I've been using Pokemon that are actually known to teleport since I do my research.
But, a blade of water doesn't have to deal water damage. Just like hitting someone with a baseball bat and a rock of the same mass isn't really that different.

I'd think a water sword would regardless be a bit more effective against a fire type like Vulpix than against a Vaporeon for obvious reasons even if the latter doesn't have Water Absorb.

How else would he use Night Slash?

How else would he use Night Slash? Same way as Dugtrio and maybe Simon Blackquill from Ace Attorney: with their hands with a blindingly fast swipe.

Better question, how does Dugtrio use Night Slash?

Better question, how does Dugtrio use Night Slash? Hard work and determination.
