When creating a character, what do you think of first? Because for me, I start with what their story is, and after that their abilities, and then the last things I think of are their name and what they look like. I get the feeling that's a bit backwards.

I just mess with s***. I find something to mess with (like reasons a person might have a dark keyblade, or how a person might react to their mother being killed while their father's away from home- see Outsiders to understand) and build from there. Usually there's a naming convention that fits with their backstory, and an image kinda builds in my head as I build the character.
Sometimes I have to build new stuff on the spot, but that's done the same way the rest of it is: by pondering plausible and satisfying cause-and-effects.

Abilities -> Personality -> Backstory (Though I skipped this part for John Doe at first, so call me a hypocrite) -> Appearance -> Name -> Vague story idea.
I'll be honest, I almost always wing the **** out of story outside of the vaguest of plans.

It's a good thing no one can read another person's PMs, otherwise they'd be able to see the jumbled mess caused within my Character Sheets because PMs lack an Edit button for some reason.
And my uncensored cussing to myself, but that's another story.

And my uncensored cussing to myself, but that's another story. I actually tried to find a way to fix that, because I mess up in PMs too. And everyone knows I'm a perfectionist. But I couldn't find a way to install an Edit button. I even asked if a plugin to do so could be created for me, but apparently, the PM system in this template is heavily coded, and messing around with it could harm the site. I didn't think a few inconveniences were worth risking the Verse, and everything stored on it. |

So... I've just started watching Accel World, finally, and I have to say, I'm a bit... What's the word... Confused?
So far, I can't tell if it's a masterpiece, or incredibly corny. I honesty can't tell. Although I'm not that far in the anime, so I'll wait and see.
