There's no way to protect Kaguya, other than pairing up. Does Demoiselle still work when paired up?

Playthings can't kill. The enemy will survive with 1 health.
Yes, Demoiselle still works when paired up. But only for the lead unit in the pair up.

Klaus starts to run toward Spirin to help him, but the Bael from before tries standing in his way. He quickly jumps on top of it and slams it into the ground as he uses it as a footstool. Playthings activates! Bael receives 5 damageHe runs over to Spirin's side and jumps at the enemy Mogall, slashing its eye with his claws. Mogall receives 15 damage
Mogall was defeated!
Klaus reaches level 2! Klaus' Health and Defense increase by 1!"Wait, seriously? I think I'm starting to lose my edge..." "Thanks for the help!" Spirin flies off, leaving Klaus behind. "Hey, you can't just fly off like that!" As he heads toward Zyl and Kaguya, Spirin makes sure to treat his wings with Vulnerary. There. Already starting to feel better... Spirin recovers 10 health"Stick close to me, Kaguya. I'll get us out of here one way or another..." Kaguya stands behind Zyl as the two retreat backward. Zyl takes out a Vulnerary and quickly treats his wounds. Zyl recovers 10 healthThe nearby enemy Mogall floats backward and unleashes another dark ring toward Zyl as it does so. "Look out!" Kaguya quickly pushes him out of the way as the two narrowly evade the ring. "Whew, that was close!" Miss! "Geez, why the heck are there so many strong monsters around!? Whatever. No time to think about that stuff! Bring it!" The Elder Bael moves forward and strikes at Zyl with its claws, but he rolls to the side, following with a powerful uppercut! Sadly, the Elder Bael's armor is strong and hard to break through... Miss! Zyl receives no damage
Elder Bael receives 4 damageThe other Bael moves in closer and strikes at Zyl from behind. He turns and blocks with his gauntlets, but still receives a small scrape. He moves forward and quickly retaliates with a one-two hook jab on the spider. His attacks seem fairly effective, hitting weak spots in the exoskeleton. Zyl receives 2 damage
Bael receives 5 damage
Bael receives 5 damage"I think I'm getting better at fighting these things." Meanwhile, Klaus is kept busy by another enemy Bael skittering out of the fort. It quickly jumps at him, landing a weak slash from its claws before Klaus cuts a couple legs off with his claws. Klaus receives 1 damage

Zyl quickly makes his way around the enemies and behind them to strike at the Mogall. He jumps up and kicks it into the ground with destructive force.
Mogall receives 8 damage
Mogall was defeated!
Zyl reaches level 2! Zyl's Health, Strength, Speed, and Defense increase by 1!
"This should prove my worth as a prince!"
Klaus advances on the enemy Bael, swiping away at its claws before leaping at it directly and clawing its eyes. The Bael screeches before falling over on its side. "That takes care of that!"
Bael receives 15 damage
Bael was defeated!
Spirin moves closer to Zyl and Kaguya while the remaining spiders begin skittering around.
The Elder Bael moves in from the forests next to them and leaps out to strike at Zyl! He jumps to the side, evading the attack, before landing a solid punch on the Elder Bael.
Miss! Zyl receives no damage
Elder Bael receives 4 damage
The last Bael crawls up to Zyl and jumps him from behind. He gets a scratch from its claws, but grabs the Bael and swings it overhead into the ground before stomping on it. It quickly gets back to its feet and skitters backward, away from him.
Zyl receives 1 damage
Bael receives 5 damage
Bael receives 5 damage
"Alright, we're almost done." Zyl tells Kaguya this while breathing heavily. He seems to be getting tired from the attacks.
