"No, I did not," Lucius replied, unfazed, his voice calm and composed. "However, I did hear what happened, and I'm sure there were quite a few people in the crowd who did see. As I approached the church, the first thing I noticed was the crowd that had gathered. There were too many people for me to see what was going on, but I could clearly hear Ogrim Corsair's voice over the murmurings of the crowd. Ogrim had gone to see the Priest out of fear his granddaughter, Erin, had caught the Plague. Father Jorim turned him away, and in his fear and anger, Ogrim publicly... Disagreed with the good Father's decision. I then heard your son, Malik Grace, order him to be silent and immediately afterwards heard Ogrim cry out in pain. I quickly pushed my way through the crowd to see Malik standing over him, and Ogrim clutching his arm in pain. There was no one else within striking range of Ogrim- it only took me a few brief seconds to push through the crowd. The two younger Academy students who were with your son were standing some feet behind him, so frightened of your son their hands were shaking. No one in the crowd had moved. Upon reaching the scene, I very politely demanded to know what was going on, reminded your son that violence was forbidden in Grandia, and... Offered to gently escort him back to the Commandant so he could give a full report. That is, after all, the protocol for a young knight-in-training, is it not?"
Lucius smirked a bit at that last part, making sure to emphasize the "in-training" bit, and Malik fumed with rage. The smoke billowing from his ears was comically visible.
"That's not true-!"
The Duchess raised her hand sharply, and her son once again instantly quieted. Lucius waited a moment before continuing. "Yes, well. After that, your son proceeded to call me several names, which politeness and proper manners forbid me to repeat in your presence, my Lady Marion. He then drew his sword and charged me in a fit of rage, and I defended myself. The only... Instigation, as you say, on my part were a few words that may, in hindisight, have been a bit choice. However, understand that I am no barbarian, Milady. I did not insult or besmirch his honor or his family's honor in any way, and I certainly said nothing to warrant him attempting to kill me- and that IS what your son did... Your grace. He charged at me with every intent to run me through right then and there. Every soul in that crowd can attest to that."
Claire taps her finger on the table and says, "Lord Lucius has not yet informed me whether he intends to officially press criminal charges, but I assure you your grace, that is well within his right. What your son did amounts to attempted murder inside Grandia's borders. As you well know, that is a capital offense."
For which there are only two possible punishments- one being death. Claire didn't say that aloud, but she didn't need to. That silent threat hung in the air like a wraith, and settled over the area like a shroud draped over a tomb. Malik turned so pale he looked like he might faint, and for the first time, there was a visible crack in the Duchess's icy mask.
Perhaps she's not so heartless after all...
Finally, after a few minutes of deafening silence, the Duchess nodded. "... Very well. Lord Lucius, Duke of Elmine, head of the noble house Morningstar. In compensation for the acts of my son, my house will provide you with 10,000 gold from our treasury, and your choice of weapon from our armory or artifact from our vault. In addition, if you have a specific request, and it is reasonable and within my power, then I shall do my utmost to grant it. Is this offer acceptable?"
-----
A: Accept the Duchess's generous offer. B: Decline, and attempt to bargain for more(Specify what- Gold? Weapons?).
If voting A, specify what rewards you want, besides the gold(The gold is automatic if you choose A).
1) A weapon from the Armory(Pick 1). 2) An artifact from the Vault(Pick 1).
Custom: If you pick A, you can also name an additional prize, along with the gold and weapon or item. This is completely optional, and the Duchess might not give you what you ask for. In other words, don't do crazy crap and ask for her castle, or something like that.
Available Weapons: Iron Sword Steel Sword Silver Sword Iron Lance Steel Lance Silver Lance Iron Bow Steel Bow Silver Bow Longbow Iron Axe Steel Axe Silver Axe Halberd Brave Sword Brave Lance Brave Bow Brave Axe Light Brand Dark Sword Levin Sword Javelin Spear Hand Axe Tomahawk Wind Spear Flame Bow Ice Axe Iron Greatsword Steel Greatsword Silver Greatsword Giant Greatsword Killing Edge Killer Lance Killer Bow Killer Axe Elfire Elwind Elthunder Arcfire Arcwind Arcthunder Bolganone Thoron Fimbulvetr Flux Nosferatu Luna Light Shine Aura Bolting Purge Shadowbolt Heal Mend Physic Recover Sleep Berserk
Available Items: Seraph Robe Energy Ring Spirit Dust Secret Book Speedwing Goddess Icon Dracoshield Talisman Vulnerary Elixir Knight Crest Hero Crest Guiding Ring Elysian Whip Ocean Seal Master Seal Eternal Seal Hoplon Guard Pharos Shield
Note: Greatswords have very high MT, but low Hit and they can't double. The Weapon Triangle in this CYOA also includes magic: Light beats Dark, Dark beats Anima, and Anima beats Light. Anima Magic includes Wind, Fire, Lightning, and Water. There are new magic weapons for each type of magic: the Light Brand counts as Light Magic, the Dark Sword counts as Dark Magic, and the Flame Bow, Wind Sword, Ice Axe, and Wind Spear all count as Anima. There is no reclassing in this CYOA, but there are Eternal Seals, which are exactly the same as they are in Fates. Lucius has a story promotion, so promotion items don't work on him, but he's the only one that applies to. Also, the Pharos Shield is just the Delphi/Fili Shield. Think that's everything you guys need to know.

A1, Silver Sword and a chance to pick a squire, aide or retainer (or anything like that, your choice of wording) from among the knights in training.

A1, Silver Sword and a chance to pick a squire, aide or retainer (or anything like that, your choice of wording) from among the knights in training. You mean pick a squire from House Gracewind? Or the Holy Knights? While House Gracewind does have their own aides, retainers, and squires and such, the Holy Knights are run by Commandant Alexei. Duchess Marion has little influence over the Holy Knights. As far as you know, anyway. If you mean the Holy Knights, you'd have better luck bringing that up with Claire.

I meant from the house. I just haven't fully familiarised myself with the proper terminology for each group yet.

A retainer would be nice. Still sticking with the Killing Edge though.

No Light Brand or Dark Sword for our Magic Swordsman?
Bump for votes.

Question. Will the Holy Knights we'll inevitably recruit carry Light element weapons?

Question. Will the Holy Knights we'll inevitably recruit carry Light element weapons? Yep. Light Brands are the standard weapons used by full Holy Knights(Not Knights-in-Training). Claire will come with a Light Brand when you officially recruit her later. And Rhea will come with a Dark Sword when you recruit her.

Well, unless you guys completely defy what I expect you to do and do something totally out of left field, you'll actually recruit Rhea first. Without spoiling too much, Rhea will most likely join in Chapter 3, while Claire will join at the same time Dianna does, in Chapter 7.

Bumpity bump. I'll probably be too tired to write this weekend, so next update won't be until Monday. So you guys have plenty of time to decide amongst yourselves. But if not, Anna will decide later.

Last call bump. I'll let Anna decide what weapon you get if no one gives me a tiebreaker by the time I get home. Hey little Cos, are you actually going to vote or what?

Would we be able to make good use of the Brave Sword in the near future?

Would we be able to make good use of the Brave Sword in the near future? Brave Swords are A Rank weapons, so it will be a while before anyone besides Claire can use it. Claire starts with A in swords, but you won't get her for a few chapters.
