He was right about the gag reflex. I'm going to be sick... I am going to be so sick.
After swallowing the last of the antitoxin Eden began to cough, but was also trying to keep her mouth shut just so she could keep the medicine down. With a pitiful look on her face she turned to Orion, hoping that he had prepared for that and was about to offer her something to help keep her from getting sick.

Orion suddenly went ghostly pale. I uh... I forgot the water again, didn't I...? I am so the worst doctor in history...
"Forgive me, Eden, I meant to bring water. I'll be right back, I promise."
He starts to hurry towards the door, then sees the pleading look on Eden's face, and in a moment of utter horror, he realizes he won't make it in time. Crap, crap, crap! If she throws up the medicine-!
It was perhaps one of the most blatantly stupid ideas he ever had, but it was the only option he could think of. Orion untied the drinking flask from his belt and handed it to her, though not before he gave her a grim warning.
"This is extremely potent alcohol, Eden, so drink only enough to help keep the medicine down. I'll be right back with some cold water."
He left the flask in her hand, and bolted out of the room.

I don't have much of a choice but to drink it right now. Bottoms up...!
Eden began by only taking sips from the flask, but she found that Orion wasn't returning quickly enough with the water. After what felt like hours to her but was nowhere near that length in actuality she gave up on him and finhsed off the alcohol in the flask. Even after that she still wasn't sure she would be able to keep the antitoxin down, so she anxiously awaited Orion's return.

Orion returned a couple minutes later at most, carrying a large glass pitcher of water in one hand and a plastic cup in the other. He quickly set both on the nightstand by her bed and poured her half a cup. "Here, drink. Slowly."
He gave her the cup and looked around for any sign of vomit. Finding none, he suppressed a sigh of relief. He felt a little better, at least until he noticed his drinking flask was completely empty. A look of sheer horror crossed his face. "Eden... Please, please tell me you didn't..."

"At first I tried to just take sips," she explained between drinks of water, "but after so long I had to choose between throwing up or drinking too much of the alcohol. I know what you said about needing the full dosage of antitoxin, so I figured that temperance was less important at the moment than my life..."

So... Long? Has her perception of time been affected already? I shouldn't be surprised... Between the medicine and the alcohol, and her small frame...
He sighs heavily, and leans forward to check her temperature, tenderly placing his hand on her forehead."You're right, of course... How are you feeling?"

"Honestly, not very well. I don't know what medicine I was on earlier when I first woke up, but I wasn't very aware of the pain. But now I am. On the bright side, I don't think you'll have to worry about me trying to get out of bed anytime soon," she said with an airy laugh.

Orion didn't know whether to be worried about her being affected by the alcohol, or concerned about the pain she was in. But he settled on concern. "As soon as you digest the medicine, I'll give you some more painkillers. For now, Eden, I want you to have some more water and try to sleep."
He pours her another cup of water and helps her drink. All I can do now is pray she falls asleep before the alcohol really begins to set in...

Eden and Orion talked about a few minor things as she continued to drink the water, but eventually she became very quiet. Before Orion could decide for certain that she was going to sleep, she began to speak again.
"You're not one of the first men to give me alcohol. They always did it to try to get me into bed. But look, I was already in bed before you gave it to me! Funny, isn't it? And of course... you helped me undress earlier too, didn't you?" she said, indicating her clothes that were hanging up to dry on the other side of the room. The shift in her mannerisms made it clear that she was beginning to feel the effects of the alcohol.

Orion merely blinked, caught off guard. The sudden shift in her behavior made it quite clear to him it was too late. Crap... Now what do I do?! I have no idea how to handle this!
He nervously cleared his throat. "Y-Yes, well... I didn't really have a choice but to give you the alcohol. And I needed to check your body for wounds, s-so... But it's not like I wanted to! I-I mean, I did want to, you're very beautiful, but- No wait, I didn't mean it like that! I didn't have any other choice! None of the villagers would help me! I didn't do anything inappropriate, I swear!"
Orion was getting more and more flustered by the second. .....I'm just making this worse, aren't I?

"Aw, how cute. I know you didn't mean anything by it," Eden said, smiling and reaching out to stroke his cheek.

Orion was even more shocked by that uncharacteristic action. She was clearly drunk, and yet... Her tender caress invoked something in him, something he couldn't explain. It was... Nice. Almost instinctively, Orion reached up to cup her hand against his cheek. Suddenly, he was possessed by a calm serenity, and his mind cleared.
His eyes opened and he smiled. He brought her hand to his lips, kissed it gently, and placed it back by her side. "You need to sleep now, Eden," he urges softly, still smiling.

"That's what I've been wanting to do for quite a while now. Goodnight..." Eden said.

Orion gave a subtle nod and leaned back in his chair, only partially aware he was still holding Eden's hand. He had gone without sleep for several days now, and was exhausted. As his eyes closed, he began softly humming the tune of an old lullaby, one of the few real memories he had of his mother. It was a soothing, relaxing hymn about fairies, and the most precious song he knew.

Orion was the first to wake the next morning. Finding Eden still fast asleep(And the blankets all over the floor), he tucked her back into bed. He sat back and stared at her for a moment longer, smiling. You're quite the little firecat, aren't you? But thank you. You've given me enough hope to last me for a long while, and that is worth more than you will ever know.
He leaned over and whispered softly to her, "Thank you, Eden."
Then he stood up and returned to his own room to quickly shower and clean himself up. Afterwards, he walked downstairs to find some breakfast. Most Inns were usually quiet in the morning, and this one was no different. A couple weary travellers in the corner shook off their drowsiness with a pot of coffee. One of the Waitresses swept the floor, and Orion bid her a good morning as he walked by. The girl blushed slightly and wished him the same, while he wandered over to the bar, where the Innkeeper was busy cleaning the counters.
"Morning, my good man," Orion greeted friendly. "Still on the clock, I see."
The Innkeeper looked up from his work and smiled slightly. "Don't you know it. But still, there's a good thing to be said for that. Honest work and all. I keep my family fed and happy, and do my hometown a good service. You looking for some breakfast for you and your patient, Doc?"
Orion nods. "Yes, if you don't mind."
The Innkeeper shakes his head. "Course I don't. It's already made, just let me go heat it up."
He vanishes into the back kitchen, and returns a couple minutes later with two trays of food. The Innkeeper has the Waitress carry one of the trays up to Eden's room, while Orion carries the other. Once he refills the water pitcher, and the Waitress leaves, he heads back downstairs to quickly brew a glass of his own special honey tea. He then heads back upstairs and gently nudges Eden awake.
"Eden? Eden, it's breakfast time. You can go back to sleep afterwards, but you need to eat and drink something, alright?"

"I don't want to wake up," she whined as she buried her face in her pillow. "But I am hungry..."

He chuckled a bit, and smiled. "I have some special honey tea here that will make you feel better and help you sleep," he coaxed gently. "It's a recipe I learned from an old friend, and I brewed it myself. You'll like it, I promise."

Eden relented and slowly sat up on her own, taking the tea from Orion. She took a few sips and then turned to him, her tone fairly neutral and calm for someone who was in general not a morning person. "How are you? I trust that you slept well last night. A good doctor deserves and needs to sleep just as well sometimes."

"Pewpewpew!" Cowboy made pretend laser sounds as he fired a few rounds from his rifle into a deer.
The dark mage walked up to his prey and inspected the coat on it.
"Coat's good, and the meat should last. Not a fan of venison though." Cowboy hauled the dead buck onto his shoulder before heading to where he thought the nearest town was.

"Well enough," Orion replies, his own tone open and friendly. "I'm used to sleeping out in the wilderness, on a bed of sticks, so this is a nice change of pace." His smile suddenly morphs into a slightly devious, knowing grin. "Plus, this is the first time I've had the company of a beautiful young woman in quite a long while."
He then very casually stands up and brings a small folding table to her bedside, promptly unfolding it and placing both of their trays down on it. He was still grinning. "I'm sure you must be starving, especially after last night, so eat up. The Innkeep still has plenty enough for seconds downstairs, should you... Desire any."
He had absolutely no idea why, but he enjoyed teasing her, especially when she didn't know it. Oh well, what's the harm? I'm already a walking paradox, and the worst priest in history.
