Dana looks over at Zyl when he flops down on the grass. "How about we just stay here for the rest of the day? A lot has happened and it looks like it will be a rainy night." Zyl nods afterwards, confirming they would stay. "Alright, let's get to work on making a small camp then. I've got something cool I want to try out! All I need is some wood from the forest." Dana winks at Zyl as she hops up and runs off. He stares off as she runs, confused, with his head tilted to the side. Deciding she will most likely be back later, he takes a nap in the grass.
Dana skims around the outer part of the forest, checking for any wood, but it seems all she can find are sticks. "Looks like I'm going to have to cut some trees then." Dana takes out her Bronze Lance and it begins to glow. She slashes down some small trees and cuts them down until becoming easy to carry material wood. By easy to carry, I mean a bunch of heavy wood slabs. Dana slowly drags the wood back over to the hill. She then sits down with a sigh of relief, knowing they should have enough wood for their small camp. After taking a moment to relax, she gets up shortly after to finish up. Asking Zyl for help, the two begin work on the camp. Dana provides slashing and cutting for the wood, changing them to the appropriate size while Zyl uses his animal strength and speed to put things together effectively. After some hard work, the finished product is a small hut that's just large enough for the two of them. It isn't perfect and has a few flaws, but it will keep the rain out and give them a place to stay.
With a place to stay set up, both Zyl and Dana relax by their hut. As they regain their strength, Zyl notices Dana speaking to many birds. "...What are you doing?" Zyl's question startles the birds and they all flutter away quickly.
With a quick sigh, Dana turns to Zyl to answer his question. "I was asking those birds to find us something to eat so we don't starve and die. Then you scared them off."
"Oh...sorry. Do you want me to go catch them and bring them back?"
"No, I don't think you should do that. It could end badly. Maybe I'll just have to go get some from the forest."
After standing up, Dana is quickly stopped by Zyl. "Hey, wait. That forest is probably dangerous to wander into too far. Let me take care of it. I'll get in there and get out quickly."
"Hmm...Yeah, okay. After all, you do owe me for getting that wood in the forest."
"What? You already went in the forest by yourself!?"
"Less talking and more gathering!" Dana yells this out while pushing Zyl forward and quickly waving. Zyl shrugs and continues along down to the forest. Dana nods her head and runs back over to the hut to get a fire going. She hasn't learned any fire magic though. It can't be that hard. It's just like light magic, but hotter. She focuses her light magic into her lance, attempting to change it to fire. Without much luck, she puts her weapon away and instead creates a ball of light in her hands. It's warm, but the heat still needs to go up.
Dana spends a long time focusing on the light, trying her best to create fire. It reaches high temperatures, but not close enough to a fireball. She intently focuses and time passes quickly without her noticing until something taps her on the shoulder from behind. She quickly let's out a small yelp, not expecting anyone to show up and a small blaze of fire is shot from her hand at the mysterious creature. Zyl barely avoids the fire, ducking down and falling clumsily to the ground. "Be careful with that fire! You could have burnt my face off with it!"
"Oops! I'm so sorry, Zyl!" Dana apologizes and helps up Zyl and then realizes that she just made fire. "Whoa! I actually can use fire! I didn't think that would really work!" Dana lights a campfire with some leftover wood as it starts to get dark. She and Zyl cook up some berries he found out in the forest and eat them pretty quickly. "Hey, how did you know these berries were safe to eat?"
"It's pretty obvious they aren't poisonous with that scent."
"You...smelled them...?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I? I wouldn't just cook up some poisonous berries for us to eat."
"...It's like you're a dog or something."
Zyl seems oblivious to Dana's comment as he continues to eat multiple berries at once. "What was that?"
"Nothing! I didn't say anything! These berries sure are great! Better not waste them! Hurry and eat them all before they get all cold!" Dana begins to shove food in her mouth to end more conversation between the two. Once they finish eating, Zyl decides to train by attacking a tree nearby while Dana sits by the fire, practicing her light magic. "So where do you think that light went?"
"What light?" Zyl responds as he continues to attack the tree with a barrage of kicks and punches.
"Oh, you weren't there for that. Nevermind. There was some kind of light that was guiding me through that fight in the town."
Zyl seems interested in the light and stops training momentarily to ask a question. "Was it a blue light shaped like a woman? I've been trying to figure out who that is for a while now."
"Huh?" Dana is absolutely confused. "I didn't see a blue light. It was just...a light. It was light colored."
"Okay...whatever light colored means..." They both finish up their training after the strange conversation and run inside when it begins to rain. They both sit inside as it becomes completely dark out and the room is only lit by a ball of light held by Dana. She does notice Zyl sitting by the entrance and looking out at the rain though.
He seems oddly quiet as she walks toward him. "What's wrong? You're being all quiet."
"It's nothing. I was just thinking about earlier..."
"What about earlier? You mean the burning town?"
"...Yeah, that's it. I was just thinking about that giant monster. It's my fault that we couldn't save that town, isn't it?"
"Why would you say that?"
"Well, we couldn't fight that monster because I was weakened by the fire. It's my fault. If I wasn't there, you would have stayed and fought. You could have defeated that thing and saved everyone. But you couldn't because I was there and I would have died. All those innocent people were killed by that thing..."
"Zyl! Don't say it's your fault! It's true that monster destroyed that town, but we can't be sure the people were killed as well. We didn't even see anyone there. Besides, I chose to leave! Neither of us could handle that thing during that time! Nobody would have lived if we didn't run. It isn't your fault."
"I guess you're right, but I can't help but feel like I should have done something."
"Well you can't change the past. All we can do is look ahead to a brighter future. Here, I have an idea. How about I promise that the next time we find that beast, we can defeat it together? Does that sound alright?"
"I guess so..." Zyl seems unsure.
"Hey, don't worry too much about it. I know that together we can do this and stop that thing from attacking anyone else."
"Alright." Zyl had what seemed to be a faint smile on his face before quickly looking away from Dana. "Well, it's getting late. I'm going to bed." After that comment, both of them comfortably situated themselves on their beds of leaves and grass until drifting into sleep.
The night was peaceful and quite with the gentle rain, but it seemed as if the rain had suddenly stopped during the night. In fact, it felt like the temperature fell as well. There was a strange rumbling as well off in the distance. It wasn't thunder, but it was more like some animal. With the strange sound resonating around the area, it woke up Dana. She noticed the strange changes in the surroundings and looked around a bit closer. Zyl was snoring and was sleeping deeply. She thought everything was normal, but as soon as she created a ball of light, she knew something was wrong. Despite the warm weather earlier, it is snowing outside. The little flurries of snow fly around frantically in the wind and already a few inches have piled up. Dana quickly wakes up Zyl by shaking him awake and they both run outside to investigate. Dana slips on the ice and nearly falls directly into a Sword Primid, but Zyl deftly moves across the ice and knocks the Primid backward with a punch as it floats away in small orbs of darkness.
m.youtube.com/watch?v=i1_J5kq387U"It looks like an ambush. There must be some ice enemies around, so stay on guard. I can move around this cold area easily, but you might have trouble. The strategy is up to you though. What do we do?" While Zyl talks, two Primids come sliding on the ice to fight along with another Sword Primid.
