I'll help too.
Which of the Fated Four should I hunt first?

All I wanted was to kill some bird-lizards. Cut off their heads. Make a new axe. But Brachydios had to roll in and start ****. And kill my while I desperately tried to carve a Remo-whatsit. Because **** everything else. Leave me with no cool drinks in the volcano. Asshole.
I think he's actually my worst fight. Our style's just... too similar. And his booms are bigger.

SWITCH AXE IS BEST AXE AND BEST SWORD, X. Depends on if you want speed, attack, defense, maneuverability...

Each weapon is different, and each style for each weapon is also different. Different weapons also have different skill requirements. For instance, the Great Sword has a very high skill requirement, while the Lance has a very low skill requirement. Some weapons have variable skill uses, like the Heavy Bowgun and the Charge Blade. Also, Switch Axe is neither the best sword nor the best axe, but it's second best for both and has the highest vertical range, is relatively easy to use, and has good DPS (not quite as much as elemental DS for specific monsters, Siege Mode Piercing HBG, elemental LBG, or an excellent GS user). Weapons I recommend: Lance (Tied for best defense in the series, with the GL, but the Lance is easier to learn and is more team-friendly), Charge Blade (one of the most complex weapons, but still good for new players), Sword and Shield (perhaps the most simple weapon besides the Lance, but it has excellent utility and some crazy combos), and the Hammer (Big, strong, and simple, but very effective at what it does, with three excellent styles which all focus on different things). Lance and Hammer more than the others. Hammer is also a great team player since Striker does great Exhaust damage, Adept does great KO damage, and Guild does a very good job with both. For the Hammer, the head of the monster is your territory, and don't be afraid to nudge people out of the way. Blades focus on tailcuts, Impacts focus on the head, and Gunners focus on non-head weakpoints. Hammer Overview: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlzHKH4fqEILance Overview: www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7SiJ4pEmb0

So far, I've hunted three of the Fated Four (all but Glavenus).
Mitsuzune was the fastest (But I used all three First Aid Meds), but Astalos was the easiest (took the longest, but no items or carts used). Gammoth was really easy, except that I carted once due to an unlucky attack loop where I was comboes by the same move knocking me into the air and hitting me again three times in a row, but still used no healing items.
I did get two Astalos Plates on my Astalos hunt (one shiny drop and one quest reward).

God, that ending was bad.
At least I got a Glavenus Plate out of that quest though. He's probably the hardest of the bunch.

Huh, the Glavenus Bow seems like a better version of the Garuga Bow.
I don't know why Garuga was said to be the best LR bow, since you can't get it as early as the Glavenus Bow in story, and tje Glavenus Bow can get to Rank 2 with only LR parts, while the Garuga Bow needs HR parts for rank 2, and caps at 200 power while the Glavenus one caps at 220.

So I did a bunch of training missions first just to get a feel for everything. Then did my first real mission.
A couple of things.
First those cat companions are way toooo adorable. I mean between the kitty puns and just the whole cat thing going for them. (Only thing that would make them cuter is if they were dogs and puppies)
Second its actuAlly pretty fun. Right now going with the sword and shield combo for now.

You should still try Lance and Hammer if you haven't already.

You can join at any time, but you should progress a bit through the main story so you get used to hunting a bit more.

Anytime. Just go to that multiplayer hub. But know the village questline and hub questline (which can also be played offline solo) are independent. So you could be at rank 6 in the village hunting epic monsters, but hunting little baby monsters in the hub.

Also, monsters in the Hub are generally stronger, because they're designed for multiple hunters to fight.

As long as the team wins, everyone wins. But know you only get 3 deaths among everyone.

Okay so just completed my first set of village quests and the meowtress. (I will never get tired of those cats and cat puns they are just to purrrrrrfect.)
So far I tried 3 different weapons swords and shields, long sword, and the lance.
I think i still lean towards swords and shields because it's faster and quicker strikes but the long sword is starting to grow on me.
Oh and those Cats that help you on your quest are way to adorable. Even got the downloadable one Mario and his greeting is Meow meow mia. Enough said

Have you tried Dual Blades yet, X? Also, Sword and Shield and Longsword are the weapons I main. So I can say from experience that they're both very good weapons.

Its actually pretty neat and one of my more favorite ones.

Most missions are like that one, involving killing or capturing a giant monster or two or three or even four.
