An aesthetic that makes sense and provides a function is always a better idea than an aesthetic that provides the same function whilst not making sense.

And what function could a smoking, eye-patch wearing monkey provide that's not some sort of entertainer? Plus, it would smoke on account of programming, not to relieve stress. It's an AI, incapable of feeling any stress that a pack of smokes could relieve.

The smoke is actually a charged chemical mist that can trigger the rapid condensation of electrically charged water vapour. In a combat situation, if the monkey has been smoking a while, it gives the LOTUS a major terrain advantage as suddenly the entire field is inside a thundercloud. This chemical mist comes in cylindrical cartridges. The eypatch is actually only opaque on one side and allows for additional visual scanning.
The entire aesthetic of course is to make the opponent's guard come down.

The bottom line is Phil smokes, has an eye patch and is a robotic monkey. Also Phil is MY MR.X's idea. He's not a norm or someone I am forcing down your throw throat. He is idea and my concept. If I was really concerned about 'logic' do you think I would had come up w/ the idea. Thank you HHD for bringing logic b/c now somebody can sleep at night  |

Well, doing something that breaks from continuity and atmosphere, especially if it has no practical applications, is a poor idea. If something does have a reason to exist in-universe, or at least a plausible explanation, then it's okay.

I wasn't aware the tone would be so apocalyptic. Plus I had reasons. I didn't do it since I got the feeling your original vision was a bit darker. But you know me...just look at my approach to writing gods in Nova. I can do better on the monkey. If you aren't a renegade LOTUS and you actually are trying to fit into society for a bit, who would ever suspect to guy with a chain smoking monkey droid to be one of those super weapons? Humans don't have much choice in pets anymore so animal pet droids would probably be common. So a monkey isn't farfetched. And the whole cigarette thing could actually be a real street drug that just happens to have properties the Cloud LOTUS can take advantage of combat wise. And why can't a regular guy let his robot pet smoke real cigs? It's the 2Xth century, lighten up! |
