TWO WEEKS PRIOR...
The events that transpired after the team that went to the Giant Chasm returned were easy to sum up. Kyurem and company landed in front of Realgam at the team's instruction, and Riley was there to greet them. They spoke with Mewtwo only briefly, as he appeared to be occupied with other matters. Kyurem and his cohorts were offered a new (hopefully temporary) home in the form of the Cave Pokespot in the middle of Orre. Kyurem was more than eager to just charge guns-blazing at Nova's capitol, but decided to just play along for now and stay put until he's needed again, content that he was no longer stuck in the same old giant Giant Chasm.
Before he was teleported away, however, Kyurem repaid the favor he owed. The DNA Splicers were used and the two beings that had merged had separated. Zekrom was revived anew as a result, performing an extravagant roar as he took breath once again. Mewtwo briefly explained to the herald of ideals about the world's current situation, what has transpired, and how he would gain a new master in the form of Rosa. Zekrom didn't speak a word of telepathic communication in response. He merely nodded at Rosa and provided no resistance as Rosa caught him in an Ultra Ball, accepting his new master. Kyurem left grumbling to himself about how his idealistic half was always the annoyingly "'strong' silent type".
Afterward, Mewtwo merely asked a few general questions to the team and gave a few extra words before leaving them to their own devices. Between the apparent escape of the Sevii Seven, Kyurem's arrival, Zekrom's revival, and the apparent security breach that lead to the abduction of the Zygarde egg (which the group did not learn about until much later), much had transpired that day, and the entire tower was bustling with commotion.
Right before the group had entered Realgam, however, Rosa, who had previously not said a word until now (replying to questions only through nods and shaking her head, and looking distant the rest of the time), caught Curtis by the sleeve of his shirt and asked to speak in private in their room. Cobalion offered Keldeo a sudden sparring lesson in the training rooms, sensing Rosa's wishes.
Right now, Curtis had closed the door behind him. He looked over to see that Rosa was already present, sitting on her bed with her knees to her chest. She hadn't even changed out of her clothes yet. Curtis removed his vest and threw it over to his own bed. He pulled his shoes off and climbed on her bed to join her.
"What's wrong, Rosa?" he asked as he turned to face her directly.
She turned her head slightly to look at him, but something stopped her from looking him in the eye. "You know what happened... I froze up again... I was like I was back in that prison..."
Curtis placed a supportive hand on her shoulder as he leaned closer. "You've been through so much; things I can scarcely imagine. You shouldn't beat yourself up so much when you have moments like these. Recovery takes time. I know without a doubt you're a strong person -- you're recovering much faster than anyone had anticipated, even -- but even you can have moments of weaknesses. We all have them. You just need to know your limits and not force yourself so hard. Practice some moderation. Know when you have to lean on something."
Rosa pulled her knees closer, looking downward as Curtis massaged her shoulder. She gulped before speaking next.
"Curt... Thank you," she said, half-muttering. "You're such a wonderful guy, so... so that's why...
I wouldn't mind at all if... it's okay if... if you want to leave me."
Curtis froze. "What?!"
"I... I don't know if I'll ever...", Rosa shut her eyes as tears began to form. "You've seen it: me thrashing in my sleep because I'm having flashbacks, reacting horribly to being touched by someone besides you or Hilda, suddenly freezing up in the middle of the day... It's been happening less, but I don't know if I'll ever recover... If I'll ever go back to being the same girl who returned your transceiver in Nimbasa; when we first met."
"Rosa," stammered Curtis, "that doesn't--"
"You've already done so much for me," said Rosa. "I wouldn't even be here if it weren't for you, but... I'm a burden. You're almost always with me. I wake you in the middle of the night sometimes. I see the worry in your eyes whenever I start behaving oddly. You even betrayed your friends for me... I'm sorry. You deserve much better. So... if you ever feel like--"
"Rosa!" exclaimed Curtis. Rosa opened her eyes in surprise as Curtis placed both of his hands on her shoulders. He was holding a firm gaze on her. This time, she couldn't bring herself to look away. "Don't. Not another word. I am not going to leave you. Not now, not ever."
"But--"
"I will never forget what I felt when I received word of your capture; how I thought I was never going to see you again. It felt like my whole world was torn apart. I thought to myself how I would give anything to see you again; your smile, your eyes, anything! I prayed to Arceus every day for a sign that you would still be alive!"
"Curt..."
"And it doesn't matter you me if you're not exactly how you were back then!" he continued. "You're still Rosa! I still love you! It's true you're going through a rough time, but to me that's all the more reason I shouldn't leave you! I want to be there to help you get back on your feet. I want to be there to see you when you smile. So please, don't say another word about me leaving you. I never have, and never will think about doing such a thing."
Tears welled up in Rosa's eyes. "Curt, I... I..."She uncurled herself and threw her arms tightly around her beloved, sobbing into his shoulder as he returned the embrace. "Thank you... Thank you! I love you so much! I...!"
Curtis placed a kiss on her temple. "I love you too. Whatever happens, please keep in mind that you're not getting rid of me that easily."
Rosa chuckled between her sobs. "Sorry. I know I'm difficult to handle sometimes, and you're probably already growing gray hairs because of me... But... Be patient with me, okay? You know how I tend to act before I think."
"You've changed less than you think," said Curtis. "...And I mean that in the nicest way possible."
"...Thank you again, Curt... F-For everything.

Location: Agate Village
Joanna was watching television and eating macaroni and cheese. Her face and clothes were stained inky black because she refused to take a bath after the motorcycle she, Disco and Shoegaze were playing with decided to start spraying oil everywhere. Apparently, the only thing that could overcome her stubbornness is her hunger.
"You shouldn't be watching this my dear. It's all rather dreadful..."
The elderly woman currently taking care of Joanna was justified in thinking that reports on the military drama unfolding in Goldenrod wasn't exactly the best thing for a 7-year old girl to be watching.
"But I need to see this! They said Galactic will be there to help! I hope Mr. Saturn is there. He's my favourite Admin. Just after Celena."
The elder woman was startled by the younger girl's utter enthusiasm. Joanna kept talking through mouthfuls of macaroni.
"So Saturn saved us all when the terrorists destroyed my school. He gave me a Galactic ring and made Bogey super strong! He's so cool! *omnomnomnom...gulp* He doesn't need any big machines or powerful pokemon to do what he does. He's like Crobatman! ...except he's friends with Yveltal instead of crobat so maybe he's Yveltalman? *omnomnomnomnom....gulp* They said he destroyed the Yveltal cult and killed so much he got control the Pokemon of Death!"
The elder woman went silent as she attempted to determine what she should tell this girl. She knew she was a Nova Academy orphan...but still...
Gunfire burst from the TV's speakers. Joanna sat forward, rapt with attention as the camera swirled around, trying to get a glimpse of whatever was causing the uproar. Nova soldiers were dropping left and right, and eventually the camera dropped to ground as well, the image skewing to the side. Evidently, whoever was holding it was put out of commission. A moment later, the camera was righted, and Saturn appeared, pulling off some kind of camouflage cloak.
"I haven't hurt any of these people. They're just sleeping. But I'm afraid I can't have your media warping my message. To all media personnel, please leave the area or I'll be with you shortly. I'm not the bad guy here. I just need to talk to Maurice."
The camera feed fizzled out, and the TV station quickly switched back to some newscasters in a studio discussing things that Joanna was significantly less interested in.
"They think he's a bad guy now?! Oh man, that's messed up..." Joanna said with a pouty face.
"Dear...where did you hear that story? About Saturn and Yveltal?" The elderly woman said, deciding on a course of action.
Joanna smiled, "Oh, it was a story in school. I got top marks on the reading comprehension test for that one."
"So there are others?"
"Yep! All of our reading work was on the Nova Heroes series. They had all the stories. Celena, Saturn, Maruice, Duncan, Osric, Sumner, Dr. Celeste..."
The woman inhaled sharply at that last one. "Celeste? Phineas Celeste?"
Joanna stopped, thinking she had said something wrong. She spoke slightly slower, and at this point she had abandoned her food. "I um...don't know his first name. He's just "Dr. Celeste". We actually learned about him in Science class, when we learned how to use StarBurst."
The woman shivered a bit at that, but let Joanna keep going.
"I wasn't going to learn about him until next year, but I read ahead a bit because I heard he was Celena's boyfriend."
"Oh? What else did they say about him?"
"Um..." Joanna raised her eyes in thought, "He invented StarBurst to control pokemon, because his family was killed when a legendary pokemon attacked. He didn't get to finish it though, since some terrorists found out and kidnapped him. He left a lot of his inventions behind, and most of Nova's technology is inspired by him. Nova couldn't have started if it wasn't for his hard work."
The woman had her hands over her mouth. Her eyes displayed a startled conflict. Joanna's innocence was so terribly off-putting. She spoke after making sure her breath was steady. "Did they ever mention his best friend? A pokemon called Jirachi?"
Joanna was confused, "Celeste was friends with a pokemon?"
"Yes," the woman said, nodding, "He didn't have many friends. But he had one, ever since childhood. Jirachi, the Wish pokemon. In the story I know, he made StarBurst in order to help Jirachi wake up from its thousand year sleep. He never meant for it to control pokemon. Maurice was the one that saw the potential. And then Nova stole it from him."
Joanna was very confused. "Um...that's a weird story. I wouldn't trust whoever told you that."
The woman chuckled, and leaned closer to Joanna. "Stories are strange things. You can never tell the same story twice. It's told a little bit differently each time. And sometimes you can change the story, to make it better for who you're telling it to."
Joanna was lost, The woman picked up on that.
"Say for example, you found some of your friends from school. And you told them you helped Saturn save everyone when the school was falling."
"I did!" Joanna said, offended at the suggestion she didn't.
"I know you did. But your friends might think you're making that up. They'll say 'oh, he didn't really need your help' and then when they tell other people about what happened, that's the story they'll tell. It will be about you meeting Saturn, instead of helping him."
"But I did help him! He gave me this ring, see!" Joanna held up her ring. It was shiny. She liked it a lot.
The woman nodded in understanding, "Yes, I believe you, but sometimes stories are made that aren't really true. And they're told because we want to hear them, instead of because they actually happened."
Joanna had her thinking face on. "So...you know the story of what actually happened? And the version in my book...is to make him look like a good guy instead of a bad guy?"
The woman didn't know whether to shake or nod her head, but simply said "Maybe. It's just a different story. Your version and mine. In my version, he's a good guy too. But it's Nova who are the bad guys."
Joanna nearly flipped the table, becoming rigid in attention. The woman jumped back at her sudden reaction.
"Are you a terrorist!?" Joanna nearly shouted, a very unnerving look in her eyes. They were wide, and somewhere between afraid and angry. Like a small animal torn between the instincts of fight and flight. The elderly woman was quite frightened by that look. She hadn't seen a child with that look in their eyes since...since the SS. Libra incident.
"No...no sweetie. Calm down. It's just a story. A different...story. I learned something different than you did. That's all."
Joanna started to settle down, slowly. The woman continued. "Good guys, bad guys, it all depends on the story you tell. If a bad guy tells it, then he would tell it like he's the good guy. Why don't I tell you my version, and then you can decide, if he's a good guy or a bad guy."
Joanna nodded.
And so a story was told. The woman was careful in her telling. She relayed only facts, and let sentiment colour none of it. Joanna paid attention, nodding along the way. Regardless of who was the good guy and who was the bad guy, the events of Phineas Celeste's childhood made sense. She told the story up to the point where StarBurst was created, and then left it open for Joanna to decide. Which makes the better story? Dr. Celeste the great StarBurst Inventor, or Phineas the child who wanted to be with his best friend.
...
"Who told you that story?" Joanna said at last, "It was really long. It took like...two years!"
"It wasn't that long, dear. And I lived through it," the woman replied, "While that happened all before you were born, to me it feels like yesterday. Phineas grew up here you know. In Agate Village."
"Really? Is his family here then?"
"What's left of it, yes. They live right here." the woman said kindly, and Joanna suddenly remembered that Celeste's parents weren't around.
"Oh...right. And is that why you have a Statue of him in that cave?" Joanna asked quickly to cover up her silly question.
The woman shook her head. "That statue is a mystery my dear. It just showed up one night. But we are glad to have it. We have no idea where it came from. Strange things happen down there. They say it's a spot where time itself unravels, and the pokemon Celebi can appear."
Joanna groaned, "Not another story...." she looked down. What was left of her lunch was cold, so she decided not to eat it. "I'm going to go see how my pokemon are doing now. Is that ok?
The woman nodded, and Joanna jumped down from her chair to run off. But then she turned back around. "Um..." she thought to ask before leaving, "But Saturn's definitely a good guy, right?"
The woman replied with a smile. "That also depends on who you ask."
Joanna sighed. "Well, he's a hero to me. Like Celeste is a hero to you."
She ran off, as the woman chuckled lightly.
"Don't run on a full stomach!"

PRESENT DAY
A few hours later, Joshua was just about ready to begin the last-minute mission he assigned. From the responses he received, only about half of his team were ready to be deployed on such short notice, but the mission was structured in a way that it would be more than enough if all goes to plan. For that matter, he could continue leaving Ditto with Yancy at the medical wing with minimal issue. Of course, he would greatly prefer to keep the closest thing to a full deck he can get, so that is why he called her to notify her that he was going to pass by to pick up Ditto for the mission.
Joshua entered the front lobby and approached the front desk receptionist, playing with a mint in her mouth as usual.
"Heya," she said, putting down the apparent sports magazine she was reading. "You know I'm not supposed to let you walk around inside unless you're visiting a patient and not a staff member, right? There's only so many times I can look the other way."
"I'm not visiting this time," said Joshua. "Just tell Yancy I'm here. I'm only picking up something."
"...Sure," said the receptionist.
She stood up and walked into the clinic for a few moments. A short while later, Yancy came running to greet him, Pokeball in hand.
"H-Hey!" she panted. She held out Ditto's Pokeball. "Here. He was a great help; we were able to heal more people more quickly with him here! Don't worry about returning him; we can breathe easier with our lighter workload."
Joshua smiled and took the Pokeball. "Glad to hear it. I'll be sure to reward him with Pokepuffs later."
"...So..." said Yancy, "this mission..."
"Don't worry," said Joshua reassuringly, "It's an easy mission. Hell, if everything goes well, I probably wouldn't need Ditto. Would rather be prepared just in case, though."
"...Okay. I believe in you", she said. "But remember to be careful, and if anything, anything happens at all, please don't hesitate to retreat or whatever."
"I won't", said Joshua. "You're probably busy, so I think I'll just take my leave. Don't overwork yourself, all right?"
"...Wait."
As Joshua began to turn to leave, Yancy placed an arm on his shoulder to get his attention. He looked back at her and was ambushed by her wrapping her arms around his neck and bringing her lips to his.
Yancy broke off and smiled, a slight flush in her cheeks. "That was for luck."
Joshua blinked, caught off guard. He then smiled. "How thoughtful of you! I'm very thankful."
After sharing smiles, they both turned and went back to their duties.
Emma wiped the sweat off her brow in the hot underground tunnels of Hoenn Zygarde had previously carved out on an earlier visit to the region for the team to travel through. The soldiers that would be performing the mission had all arrived at the designated area and were almost suited up, armed, and ready to move out. Just one final thing was needed.
Emma put her Essentia helmet on. A small window appeared in the corner of the HUD, showing a certain Qwilfish-headed Lieutenant on the other side.
"Everything in position?" asked Hugh.
"Just about," answered Emma.
"Good," said Hugh. "And by the way, Xerosic brought up a good point to me earlier: if you encounter any resistance, use lethal force only as a last resort. We're supposed to leave the missing data and equipment as the only hint we were there. If they find a corpse with bullet wounds in it, they'll get suspicious and they'll watch out for us in any similar occurrences of Earthquakes. If someone bleeds, we might get away with it, but clean it up anyway. If you find anyone, knock out the ones who didn't see you and capture those who do."
"...I would've preferred if this was said in the briefing, you know," said Emma.
"Yeah well, you probably know how your dad's mind works," said Hugh. "It's just a word of caution. It's not like any sane person would still be in the building when it happens anyway. Besides, you can just beat them into submission with your suit-assisted Martial Arts stolen from Jackie Chan movies or something."
Emma grunted in mock offense. "I'll have you know that I freestyle my moves instead of 'stealing' them from random martial arts flicks."
"Suuure," said Hugh. "Anyway, Zygarde's ready for transport, so activate the whatever-it-was-called."
Emma held up the spherical device from her backpack and flipped a switch to activate it. As she did so, she noted Hugh turning to speak to someone off-screen.
"Ready to go to Auntie Em?" he asked.
"I told you not to call me that!" protested Emma. "It makes me sound like some wrinkly old lady, even though I'm younger than you! How would you like it if I kept calling you Qwilfish-head, huh!?"
Hugh recalled what he was talking to into an Ultra Ball. "Somehow, I can't seem to care if you do it. Anyway, prepare to receive him."
Emma grumbled something to herself as Hugh left his seat. A few seconds later, the spherical device she held was replaced by the Ultra Ball Hugh was holding on the other side of the window back in Unova.
"...Received," she said. "We'll start it soon."
She stood up and walked over to inform the men about Hugh's warning regarding lethal force.

"Welcome to Realgam," Meridia said in response, though not necessarily to Molly. After that she returned to their previous conversation, and as such was speakig to Molly specifically. "Now might be the best time to go get lunch. It's not a good idea to hang around here when that crazy receptionist is in a foul mood."

Molly was about to reply with something moderately witty, but then her thoughts caught up with her and she stopped. She shuffled her feet a bit in place, because it suddenly occurred to her that a minor legend just invited her to lunch. Or...did she? She wasn't very clear. What did she say again? Um...was she reading too much into this?
Because after spending so much time with Blue and then Eusine, she'd gotten rather re-acclimated to dealing with men. Very clearly direct men (or in Eusine's case...too direct), who practically sweat testosterone. But hadn't spoken to a girl her age...heck, anyone her age, for years. Well, months to her, several years to the rest of the world...the last time would have been when she was in school, back before any war had started. Memories of a now far gone social life shot through her head and rattled about in emotional whiplash.
"Ah..." Molly said, looking down completely unintentionally "Lunch sounds good. Um...so, is there a place nicer than the cafeteria or um...like, did you have some other place in mind...?"
Location: Over the Ocean
"Bye bye birdie!"
Yvetlal heard something speak while she was clawing off the tracker on her back. She finished that as something exploded against her wings. It felt kinda missle-y. Maybe anti-matter? Could have been from anything...oh, but that stench that wafted through was unmistakable. Not the smoke. It was a different kind of smell. One that came from the darkness, an anti-aura if you well.
"Kawkawkaw! The Earth killer. Nova sent me a present, how thoughtful."
She heard a sonic boom and turned her head to see Celena shooting at her, the shiny new suit and relative size posed her as akin to a bullet. Yveltal twirled and met her charge with an outstretched claw. The armored Nova Admin expected to pierce her gigantic target, but ended up in just the strangest arm-wrestling match. Yveltal's beak didn't permit grinning, but mentally she wore an amused one as she tested Celena's strength.
Celena was having none of that. She detonated a missile point blank, and spiraled back to see Yveltal's wing disappointingly intact.
"You recognize me?" She spat at her prey, "I'm flattered! This is even a new outfit!"
A searing burst of annihilation (technical term) flew from her armoured palms, pointed up at the bird. Yveltal opened her mouth and fired a similar laser in retaliation. The beams clashed, and they did the exact opposite of exploding with a massive shockwave. Yveltal's Oblivion Wing consumed its opposite in a flash, forcing Celena to teleport away before the energy drain reached her. She appeared instantaneously next to Yveltal's face and socked her right in the side of her face. The bird flinched, but just a little. Dragon energy erupted from around Yveltal as she simply charged forward with Dragon Rush, catching Celena in the vortex of her attack and hurling her into the water.
"You reek of death. If you weren't out to mindbreak my species I'd consider you my avatar."
"I think a student-master thing applies here!"
Celena teleported into view again, this time aiming a annihilation burst directly for Yveltal's eye. But the bird had caught on to that trick, and was already a Phantom Force portal away.
Location: Goldenrod Radio Tower.
Those watching need remember that Galactic was founded on the doctrine of a psychopath. Maurice has bestowed upon the world his vision of true peace for humanity! Cyrus, the founder of Galactic, would have left humanity in pieces!
A synthesized voice echoed over Goldenrod, and the relevant communication channels. By now Saturn's stream had been shut off to the public, broadcasting only through Nova's private channels (highly secured channels that would never let even a single bit of a Porygon through). But since Saturn's prerecorded messages had ended by this point he didn't care all too much.
Saturn recognized this voice as Harry's original voice. It was digital, but it was meant to imitate how he had sounded as a young man; how he had sounded when Galactic was first absorbed by Nova.
Galactic is harbouring a weapon of mass destruction magnitudes stronger than anything Nova has ever devised. We have requested that they reveal any details on this weapon and they have declined. Despite our best efforts, we know next to nothing about their weapon, and they could very well be plotting the total destruction of the Earth, as Cyrus was before them. Negotiating can not take place as long as they hold this weapon over our heads, and peace with them is not an option. Saturn will be terminated, and his resurrected cult will follow.
From the top of the radio tower, Harry had eyes everywhere. His mask showed him every single bit of relevant drone footage. And yet Saturn was nowhere to be found. There was no way he'd retreat, and no way he was actually here to make peace.
Saturn was a scientist for Galactic, and an assassin for Nova. But Harry got the feeling that Saturn wasn't currently in either of those roles. Celena finding Yveltal at this very moment was too much of a coincidence. Saturn wanted the city devoid of its powerful guardians. Which means that's he's probably here as a thief.
Harry engaged his Mega-Armour Gauntlet, and threw a marked masterball off the side of the tower. It burst in mid air, and a metallic purple blur barely escaped before it was eugulphed by a sphere of mega-evolution energy. What exploded forth from that corrupted cocoon was a veritable Gundam of a Mobile Weapon. Deep purple-black armour encased a form that was only humanoid in that it had two leg-like rocket jets and two scything arms. Its UFO-like body was coldly mechanical, as were the twin wave-motion canons mounted over its shoulders. It was at least a storey tall, and those canons ran the length of its body.
It wasn't Harry's first choice of Pokemon, but Diancie was off-limits to everyone. It had devised a defense mechanism based off of Harry's cybernetics and DNA; a crystalline pollen that forces a painful and crippling addiction on anyone who inhales it. Under Celena's orders, it was sealed so deep within Nova's digital pokemon database that not even Duncan could touch it.
So this one would have to do.

"If you're ruling out the cafeteria- a wise decision- then there are a couple of places to eat relatively close to here. All of them serve the standard fare for Orre, and none really stand out in terms of the execution of the food, so you might as well go to the closest one," Meridia replied.

Molly opened her mouth to speak, but there was a bit of a delay before words happened.
"...so you mean outside the tower? Oh, wait, no you mean "here" as in "here" in this room, not "here" as in...right. Um. Ok. Thank you! I guess I'll just...go...?"
She didn't mean to put that question mark there but it kind of slipped out.
"You already get lunch?"
That slipped out too.

"No, I haven't," Meridia said as she stood up. "You sound like you're going to be really lost trying to find a restaurant. How about I show you where one is? You'll most likely be on your own coming back, but at least you will know how to get back to Realgam, right?"

Molly's heart leapt up while her head went both up and down.
"Not...that lost. I think. I'm pretty good with directions. But that would be amazing, thank you!"
She stepped aside to let Meridia lead the way.

Later, in a nearby diner
Molly poked at the fries next to her burger, as if checking that they were real. She hadn't had quality food for a while. Even during her stay at Realgam it was mostly hospital food and the occasional bit of cafeteria "meat". But now, somehow, she found herself in a position so nice she had constantly remind herself to act dignified, and not scarf down everything in a (slightly elevated) heartbeat.
Oh sure, being the dignified one was easy when your company was Blue and Eusine...but now there's another girl at the table.
"This might surprise you, but I haven't seen food that looks this good in months." Molly said to Meridia.
Well...years, actually, but let's not move too quickly. Molly thought to herself.
"Do you come here often?"
...a perfectly reasonable thing to say.

LATER...
Joshua and his men wore a sports cap, a baggy navy blue shirt and brown and somewhat stained pants over his usual attire. A work uniform of a shipping company that has come to pick up a collection of bicycles and other miscellaneous materials from Rydel's Cycles to be delivered to a new sister location in the Unova region that will be having a grand opening sometime in the coming months. Or at least, that's the situation as far as the official documents are aware. In truth, most of the cargo were Pokemon Eggs that would be smuggled back to Realgam Tower. The rest was actual cycling equipment -- partly to get past whatever inspections Nova soldiers may try doing, mostly because the rebels' end of the bargain was to deliver the materials to the previously mentioned Unova shop for dirt cheap.
As his men were packing the last of the boxes that really did contain cycling equipment on the last and second truck they brought, Joshua spoke with the employee standing in as active manager for the absent Rydel.
"I transferred payment already," said the middle-aged man. "Now get out of here as soon as you can! We want our hides attached to ourselves for as long as we can, and the more you stand here, the more you're likely to get discovered. The soldiers here are twitchier than most after the Yveltal fight a months back."
Oh yeah. I saw that sorry excuse of a live news broadcast of it. Mewtwo stole my VCR to see my recording of it.
"Don't you worry," Joshua said. "We have documentation should they ask for it and a few methods of manipulation to get what we want. They won't trace a thing back to you."
"Good," said the acting manager. "We're no fighters and this is probably the most we'll get to do for the rebel effort, but we'll still be rooting for you guys, you hear?"
Joshua nodded. "It's appreciated."
Joshua shook the man's head and went back through the back door.
------
"That it!" called one of the incognito soldiers.
Joshua was about to take his place by the cargo so that the door would be shut (partly because he has a device to start identifying eggs once they get past the city's border guards, mostly because there would be a chance others would recognize him as he sat in the backseat) when a slow rumbling noise made everyone stop in their tracks.
"...Was that..." said the driver.
Then, the Earth itself began to shake, causing everyone to grab onto the nearest object to stay on their feet.'
"Earthquake!" someone shouted.
"Here?!" exclaimed Joshua.
After what felt like several minutes of trembling, the quake appeared to stop. Joshua sprinted a ways away from the shop and scanned the city. There didn't appear to be a lot of significant structural damages, save for once building. He looked toward a cloud of dust that formed in a spot relatively isolated from the other buildings in the city. A few uniformed Nova workers ran out of the cloud of debris, coughing their lungs out.
Hey.. Isn't that the TV Mauville building Nova took over and re-purposed into a station specializing in satellite networking? I heard they keep most of the computers and data underground to prevent leaks and espionage. Hmm...
Joshua ran back to his men and singled out one in particular. "Hey, you have a USB?"
"Yes sir," he said.
"I want to borrow it," said Joshua. "The station Nova had here collapsed in the quake. With their defenses down, I thought I might be able to steal some intel. Don't bother waiting for me, just go. I have a way out."
"...Understood," said the soldier. He dug through his his pocket and handed over a flash drive. "128 gigs. You break it, you bought it."
"Thanks," said Joshua. "You're in charge while I'm gone. Now move."
Joshua pulled his disguised clothing off and hid it behind a wall of boxes in one of the trucks before jogging out at the direction of the station, making sure to go unnoticed in the town's confusion regarding the sudden Earthquake.

"Not really, but the food is decent enough to warrant a visit every now and then when I can spare the time," Meridia answered.

"You get much time then?" Molly cautiously said between bites. "Like, what does a rebel do besides become a world hero on national television?"
Then she paused. "Eh, I mean, I don't mean to keep bringing that up if you don't want me to..." she said looking down.

"I didn't always. But I haven't been in the field as often since... Lavender Town, really."

Molly leaned in, munching on a fry.
"Lavender Town..." she said while wracking her brain, "What happened there?"

"Most of our people who fought there that day lost their lives. I knew more than a few of them quite well, so when I heard about their deaths later on... You see, I wasn't there during the worst of it because of a... confrontation. It didn't end very well for me. I'm lucky I'm still here."

Molly's face wrinkled, partially because of the conversation subject matter, partially because whatever soft drink she just drank was overwhelmingly sweet.
"That sounds horrible. Not the fact you're here, I mean, we're all thankful for that, but I mean..." She recollected her words, "The worst thing is coming back and finding out what you've lost, you know? I don't think I have any friends or family left anymore. But then again, I hear survivor's guilt is getting less common these days..."

"It was about a month before I learned what happened," Meridia said slowly, quietly, "I escaped a terrible place only to return to a new kind of misery... Not only did I lose some good friends at Lavender Town, but in that time they also destroyed our Nimbasa base, which was the location I had worked out of for many years."

"It makes me wonder how there are cities are still left in the world." Molly said, contemplatively, "But not people...people like you exist. Fighters. You aren't going anywhere any time soon."
She wiped her mouth, "So what's next for you? Um...sorry if I'm getting nosy, there's just so much to catch up on..."
Location: Goldenrod City
Find the other two and kill them. Saturn is mine.
That was the only order given to the Intercity Nova Police. Whatever is happening on the administration side is obviously more important than a few trespassers.
It must be more important than the city structure as well, since Mecha Genesect there looked all too eager to rip apart a few abandoned residential skyscrapers to find its prey.
"If that thing is going to destroy the city looking for me, be my guest. It's your city. Oh wait no, it's the people's city. But evidenced by Kalos, Nova doesn't care about that at all."
Saturn's voice just echoed through the increasingly militarized streets.
"How is he doing that?" Officer Bob said to Officer Tom on the street.
"Psycho-electric interface. He's probably hacked into the city's loudspeakers using some genetic Bronzor-Porygon hybrid." Officer Tom replied.
Officer Bob had nothing but a confused look on his face in reply.
"Man, have you even read half the stuff in the Galactic reports? It's not that far fetched!"
"...you read reports?"
Officer Tom rolled his eyes and ordered his StarBurst Arcanine steed to charge ahead. Officer Bob followed on his Rapidash, as did a large number of other police officers riding StarBurst pokemon assigned to this sector.
"Let's just find those kids before they find us."
"Yeah. Nothing's more dangerous than kids with Pokemon."
They began blanketing the streets with StarBurst, trying to smoke the intruders out.
Meanwhile, Saturn was crouched in a rooftop garden, holding a stolen radio. His camoflauge cloak would shield him from any of Mega-Armor Genesect's sensors, but it wouldn't hold off the city-wide scanning protocols for long. They'd eventually pick up on a region that too perfectly blends into its surroundings, and doesn't include any background noise.
They also wouldn't StarBurst the whole city since that would disrupt both communications and all the pokemon assigned to the occupying soldiers. But he wouldn't risk leaving his own pokemon out for very long. Also, while he could have Toxicroak drop in a wave-motion cannon, there was no way he'd be able to conceal that, or beat Genesect in a fire fight.
So basically, the task at hand is to take down a Genesect-powered Mecha the size of a house. By himself. By hand.
Better bring the expensive knife.

Jacquelyn wouldn't be captured so easily. Starburst wouldn't affect her Arbink, she'd been with it since she was 4 and was her only pokemon.
Meanwhile, Austin's three pokemon with Cosmc Drive help were safe and secure as well.
They sprinted down an alleyway. It split off in two directions.
"You go that way, have your Razor Shell ready. Don't die. And try to stay calm."
Austin nodded. Jacquelyn ran down the path to the right, whilst he took the left.
He did as told, and pushed a single button that had been assigned to quick-activate Razor Shell. Jacquelyn had helped with that.
Although Austin was aware Jacquelyn could handle herself expertly, he couldn't stop himself from worrying about her. It had only been week together. But that week felt like a lifetime. And she'd become as close a friend to him as his pokemon.
Meanwhile......
Jacquelyn stopped, hiding behind a trash can. She quieted her breathing, and peered over the corner of the bin, eying the officer at the end of the alleyway.
She tightened her grip on the black .44 pistol. She pointed it at the officer on top of the pokemon. Killing a Nova bastard would be fine for all they'd done to her. But stooping as low as them would be shooting the starbursted ride he was riding. She refused to do that.
Clenching her right eye shot, she aimed at the officer, right above his heart.
